RE: Australian elections - afraidforallofus - 10-17-2015 RE: Australian elections - HairOfTheDog - 08-26-2018 Australia has a new Prime Minister.........yet again. Scott Morrison ^ became the new prime minister after Malcolm Turnbull was ousted in a leadership challenge in the center-right Liberal Party. Morrison was most recently the country’s treasurer and former implementer of Australia’s controversial “stop the boats” asylum seeker policy. He was sworn in as prime minister on Friday. He didn’t start the leadership revolt against Turnbull, but Morrison emerged the winner of a three-way challenge in the week-long chaos. Morrison presented himself as a more moderate option to conservative challenger Peter Dutton. Turnbull was unable to keep the growing conservative movement in his party aligned with him. Australia has now had five Prime Ministers in five years. No prime minister has lasted a full three-year term in the past decade before being dumped — not by voters but by members of their own party. So, my friend aussie -- will Morrison make it to the May 2019 national elections? Does the Labor Party have a chance of winning back power next year? Is Morrison a good egg or a bad egg?
