This may be naive & simplistic but I think predominately black communities should be patrolled by predominately black LEO's. Out in the real world that might be viewed as terribly un-pc but it's how I feel.

I don't think it helped that the mayor of Baltimore basically endorsed rioting over the weekend, by stating "we also gave those who wished to destroy, space to do that, as well". It's hard to read that any other way as tacit approval to be violent while police stand by and allow it.

Baltimore is an angry town - encouraging agitation there is never a good idea.

And these pictures look like kids from the neighborhoods fucking around. I don't doubt there are usual suspects stirring the pot... and they know who those punks are.
Baltimore is currently being burned and looted.

I don't think it would make a difference in the actual violence Duchess. The cop that shot the homeless black guy and killed him was black. You just don't hear anything about that one anymore because the demographics were wrong for the media.

Freddie Gray's funeral was held today. I understand that emotions are high, but this kind of bullshit is so frustratingly stupid and unjustified.

City leaders are listening to the community complaints and to the protestors, the city leaders have responded, there are separate investigations underway...

The moronic rioters piss me off. I hope no one ends up getting killed during the protests in Baltimore.

RE: POLICE BRUTALITY CASES: WALTER SCOTT MURDER & MORE - Duchess - 04-27-2015

It's all over my news tonight. Some officers have been hurt. Protestors threw bricks at them.

I think Baltimore has something like 40-45% of its force made up of minorities. That's a pretty high percentage, but Charm City is 75% minority...

RE: POLICE BRUTALITY CASES: WALTER SCOTT MURDER & MORE - Duchess - 04-28-2015

This isn't helping their cause, not a bit. I don't support this kind of bullshit. Act like an animal, get treated like an animal.

There are way more pix but it's just more of the same. I see a lot of young people, kids and I think they are doing this just to do it not to actually protest. They are being niggers.

Now that it's light out residents of that community are out cleaning up. I don't know how much coverage of that you will see though. It makes me think that all those who were creating destruction & chaos weren't even from that area.

Heat seeking missile. 28

A Baltimore mother is being hailed for doing her part to quell the violence on after a video of her smacking her son upside the head when she spotted him rioting and throwing rocks at police emerged on Monday.

The unidentified mom recognized her son even though he was wearing a black ski mask that covered much of his face.

When the mother spotted her son, who was also dressed in all black, on TV throwing rocks she went after him like a heat-seeking missile.

It's so disappointing that rioters have exploited the situation and moved the focus from a justifiable (IMO) protest and demand for answers to thugs tearing up the city. Difficult to watch.

The family, residents, city leaders, etc begged gangs and rioters to stay away. I think the thugs figured the funeral would be the best time to strike. Assholes.

News reports indicate rioters came from other areas, but I think many of them were local too; local high school kids. CNN reported that flyers were circulated at a high school calling for a Purge (12 hour crime spree without punishment) and that the clashes with police were largely with teens. I hope there are a lot more parents like the mom you posted who are kicking their kids' asses.

How can they not understand that they are demeaning the cause? I get so disgusted with them. This destruction is doing the precise opposite of what the peaceful protesters were hoping to accomplish.

They don't care.

They're not the ones protesting police brutality and demanding answers regarding Freddie Gray's deaths. They're just thugs looking to wreak havoc and profit from the situation, IMO.

There are a lot of good cops (I still think so) who get judged guilty by association for the acts of thug cops. And, there are a lot of peaceful protestors who get judged guilty by association for the acts of thugs among them. The positive acts of the good cops and the peaceful protestors sadly get overshadowed by the bad acts of the thugs. Anyway, I hope last night was the end of the riots.

I had to get up really early this morning and have the morning news on (didn't turn on the tv yesterday). It's all about Baltimore. I saw a video of the mother in the yellow shirt in full action; she wasn't having any of that shit. The Police Commissioner praised her.

What happened to Freddie Gray in that van? I think the mayor and the Chief of PD have been good about making statements and promising to get answers. I know there are investigations underway. But, I gotta say, it's frustrating as hell that three weeks later they either don't know or aren't saying what their employees claim went down. That frustration has gotta be through the roof in Baltimore and now the peaceful protestors have to deal with the frustration of having their cause set back and their city rioted by a bunch of idiots too.

The mayor is sure helping the situation............

In a press conference Sunday, Rawlings-Blake said, "I ... instructed (the police) to do everything that they could to make sure that the protesters were able to exercise their right to free speech. ... We also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that."

This was before the riots.

What the fuck is wrong with her. Jesus Christ.

RE: POLICE BRUTALITY CASES: WALTER SCOTT MURDER & MORE - HairOfTheDog - 04-28-2015

It was a terribly worded statement by the Mayor, I agree. Especially when taken out of context, which is what a lot of the ultra conservative pundits did.

When I listened to her press conference, I didn't think she was condoning destruction at all. Rather, she was lamenting that providing space for some (peaceful) without police intervention also unfortunately meant leaving space for others (destructive).

This clarification was issued by her office yesterday.

“What she is saying within this statement was that there was an effort to give the peaceful demonstrators room to conduct their peaceful protests on Saturday. Unfortunately, as a result of providing the peaceful demonstrators with the space to share their message, that also meant that those seeking to incite violence also had the space to operate. The police sought to balance the rights of the peaceful demonstrators against the need to step in against those who were seeking to create violence.

The mayor is not saying that she asked police to give space to people who sought to create violence. Any suggestion otherwise would be a misinterpretation of her statement.”

There's a video of her making the statement in the link: http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2015-04-27/-space-to-destroy-the-short-history-of-a-dangerous-botched-quote
