RE: walking while black - Ma Huang Sor - 04-27-2012 I'm confused. With that amount of money pouring in (200k?) how could the lawyer be the first to know. This stuff makes less and less sense as it stumbles along. If he had 200k in the bank, why was he saying he was indigent? Guess that'll all come out in todays hearing. If he had 200k in the bank, why was he saying he was indigent?Nothing confusing about it, donations have been coming in, the amount may or may not have been 200k at the time of the hearing and z may or may not have known exactly how much it was. He was obligated to disclose it, but might not have known that either. If the lawyer didn't know about it he couldn't disclose it to the court. Paypal like any other bank is obligated to report transactions over $5k. If they did or didn't you will not know, its not public record. I doubt there will be significant repercusions, the judge may require a higher bond contribution as may his bond holder RE: walking while black - Lady Cop - 04-27-2012 Judge just said he wants to know particulars, when monies were deposited, who had control of account, etc. so he is holding the matter in abeyance for now. RE: walking while black - Ma Huang Sor - 04-27-2012 That's cool, just seems like this guy gets special treatment at every level for some reason. If he'd gotten the gun from Zimmerman and shot him claiming stand your ground, do you suppose they'd have let him go too? (it can be revisited if necessary) Circuit Court Judge Kenneth Lester, Jr. said he would not hear arguments about a gag order and he praised both Corey's office and O'Mara for tamping down emotions in this case. RE: walking while black - Ma Huang Sor - 04-27-2012 That's really odd. A guy shoots someone, uses a law for the hook and raises 200k in the process, never reports it and the judge says he'll "look at it later". RE: walking while black - Lady Cop - 04-27-2012 crump is already starting to behave like an asshole. i do not believe for one minute that O'Mara would have perpetrated a fraud on the court, he simply did not know about those funds. as for Z, i think he's just dumb. he should have disclosed it. O'Mara should dump him. (CNN) -- George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer accused of wrongly killing Trayvon Martin, will not immediately have to turn over donations to his website, a Florida judge said Friday. Zimmerman collected about $204,000 in donations through the website, but did not disclose the contributions during his bond hearing last week, according to Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O'Mara. Assistant State Attorney Bernie de la Rionda asked Judge Kenneth Lester Jr. to increase Zimmerman's $150,000 bond. But the judge said he would delay ruling on the request, in part because he does not know if he has the authority to do so. Lester said he is also concerned about revealing the names of donors. "I'm not going to make a snap decision," Lester said. Zimmerman's family testified last week at his bond hearing that they did not have the kind of resources that would have been necessary to meet the prosecution's suggested $1 million bond. Zimmerman, 28, was released Monday on $150,000 bail, 10% of which his family put up to secure his release while he awaits trial on a second-degree murder charge in Martin's February 26 death. Although Zimmerman spent some of the contributions on living expenses, about $150,000 remains, O'Mara said Friday. O'Mara said he has put the money into a trust he controls until a final decision is made about its use. O'Mara said he learned about the money on Wednesday and he and Zimmerman were trying to shut down Zimmerman's website, Facebook page and Twitter account to avoid concerns about possible impersonators and other problems. Zimmerman released from jail "He asked me what to do with his PayPal accounts, and I asked him what he was talking about," O'Mara told CNN's Anderson Cooper on Thursday. "He said those were the accounts that had the money from the website he had. And there was about ... $204,000 that had come in to date." O'Mara had said earlier this month that he believed Zimmerman had no money. Asked whether knowledge of the money might have made a difference to Lester, who presided at Zimmerman's bond hearing, O'Mara said, "It might have." Martin family attorney Benjamin Crump said Zimmerman's failure to reveal that he had the money shows that he is being dishonest. "If his testimony at the bond hearing is any indication of what is to come, then the lying has already begun," Crump said. RE: walking while black - username - 04-27-2012 This may shock some, but I'm not a donor. j/s. I think the law is that any transaction of $10K or more has to be reported. That is, if Z had received a single donation of $10K or more, that particiular donation would be reported (or if from that account Z pays $10K or more to a single recipient). RE: walking while black - IMaDick - 04-27-2012 He's not to bright, He should have been empting that pay pal account daily. at any rate, if he can afford to pay he should have to pay. RE: walking while black - Adub - 04-27-2012 Zimmerman was mostly locked up. But there is no way in hell that Zimmerman's wife was not aware of the money from the paypal account. Hello, some moneys had already been transferred to her bank account. She had already spent close to $50,000 dollars. She lied on the stand. Well actually when asked she said, O'MARA: Other major assets that you have which you can liquidate reasonably to assist in coming up with money for a bond? S. ZIMMERMAN: None that I know of. RE: walking while black - Lady Cop - 04-27-2012 i agree Adub. his brother knew also. that's why i said O'Mara ought to dump him as a client. free publicity or no. may not be worth losing his Bar license.
