I know. You can have stricter gun laws without taking any ones right to bear arms away. This shit is just becoming beyond fucking stupid.

RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - BigMark - 05-19-2018

My gun has a trigger lock and the key is hidden, not very convenient if a home invasion takes place but also can't be used against me.

RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - Duchess - 05-19-2018

I don't much like guns. They are in my home & they're here to stay but I'm not going out every few months to shoot them any more. It's deeply uncomfortable & I hate every minute of it. I have a better idea, I think I'd be better off with a shotgun.

I would prefer it if all politicians simply refrained from saying anything at all rather than crap like that ^^^^^^ or the thoughts & prayers bullshit. It's disingenuous and a slap in the face to every rational person listening.

You should go back and re-read the first few pages of this thread.

You disagreed with everything I said.

Now I feel you’ve changed course.

I have, and not only in my opinions of guns. I've evolved, MS, maybe some for the better, maybe some for the worse.

You guys are gonna love this.

After the Parkland, Florida high school shooting, President Trump assigned a group of his Cabinet members to “study and make recommendations” on a range of school safety topics, which included raising the age for purchase of all firearms to 21.

The group is comprised of Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Educaton Secretary Besty "DERP" DeVos.

Well, three months after the 'shool safety commission' was established they held a meeting and revealed that new firearm age restrictions would not be part of the agenda. In fact, guns won't be on the agenda at all.

Needless to say, students and student activists aren't surprised and aren't satisfied with the inaction. So........the motivated students just keep moving forward voicing their concerns and traveling across the country to get young people to register to vote.

I'll feel bad about that right after the schools are properly secured and the school shootings continue

RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - Duchess - 06-09-2018

Well this is pretty crazy. I feel like I should be more surprised than I am.

For more than a year, the state of Florida failed to conduct national background checks on tens of thousands of applications for concealed weapons permits, potentially allowing drug addicts or people with a mental illness to carry firearms in public.

A previously unreported Office of Inspector General investigation found that in February 2016 the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services stopped using a FBI crime database called the National Instant Criminal Background Check System that ensures applicants who want to carry a gun do not have a disqualifying history in other states.

The employee in charge of the background checks could not log into the system, the investigator learned. The problem went unresolved until discovered by another worker in March 2017 — meaning that for more than a year applications got approved without the required background check.

Crime rates have fallen as more concealed carry permits are issued,

That's not the issue, the fact that for more than a year applications were approved without the required background check, nothing was checked at all. Everyone who applied for CC was granted one. That's not a problem for you? I understand that's not your state but, in general?

RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - Maggot - 06-10-2018

You are right their system needs to be updated from analog to digital. I don't like it and perhaps more funding would be appropriate even though I hate government spending, this is an area that needs priority. It's fucked up.

RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - HairOfTheDog - 06-10-2018

There's no causal relationship between murder rates and conceal carry permits, Mags -- no evidence to suggest that more people carrying makes society safer (or less safe).

The story Duchess posted doesn't really surprise me at this point. But, it's definitely a case of extreme negligence; some heads should roll, in my opinion.

I agree with you, and F.U. and Six and Duchess and others................that piss poor enforcement of existing laws is a major contributing factor when it comes to gun violence in the U.S.

We've seen evidence of that over and over in the mass shooting stories over the last few years, wherein mass shooters were allowed to legally purchase their weapons because the military failed to report disqualified violent offenders to NICS, the Fed did not finish background checks on time, the police did not remove guns from people who clearly posed a threat when it was within their authority, etc...

RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - F.U. - 06-11-2018

One small thing I don't understand is that on a 4473 the box for a SS number is a option and not a requirement. How the hell can they pinpoint who the person is by just a name and DOB?

RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - Donovan - 06-11-2018

Maggots charts are stupid and show zero causal relationship between concealed carry permits and crime rates ,they just show a steady decline starting around 1995. Know whatever else happened in 1995 and 1996? The explosion and exponential improvement of internet broadband quality, including online access to hi-resolution porn. So basically I could make the exact same argument Maggot does by saying the increase of stay-at-home masturbatory activities is directly related to a drop in crime rates since the mid nineties..

And I'd probably be much closer to the truth.

Bang Bang!

RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - SIXFOOTERsez - 06-15-2018

There is a LOT of room for fixing things without any infringement of 2A. There is a shit ton that can be done to protect schools too without infringing on anything. Makes no sense whatever to pass any more laws that will only be enforced on some folks and not everyone

RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - HairOfTheDog - 06-17-2018

Nobody's suggested any new laws that would infringe on the 2A, Six. Read the amendment again -- what it actually says, not what you want it to say. And, read the Supreme Court's rulings on the limits of the amendment. It's not really complex.

How would passing a federal law requiring gun owners to secure and control access to their firearms be a 2A infringement? It wouldn't.

How would passing federal 'red flag' laws with speedy due process be a 2A infringement? It wouldn't.

How would limiting magazine/cartridge capacity to 10 rounds be a 2A infringement. Again, it wouldn't.

Lack of current gun law enforcement is a big problem. I agree with you and others here on that point. It's a proven fact.

However, better enforcement of current laws isn't enough to significantly minimize or stop some types of factual/real violence we're experiencing in the USA today.
