RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - Duchess - 06-11-2013

I don't like the killing any more than anyone else does, it's heartbreaking but I'm going to argue for guns before I would ever argue against them. Everyone wants more goddamn laws governing what people can buy, what they can't, who can have them, etc. No one ever addresses the fact that it's only law abiding citizens that these laws affect, they don't affect a fucknut nor a thug.

I said this earlier in the thread but I'm going to repeat it.

If I'm going to protect myself against the US government, I WANT A NUCLEAR WARHEAD RIGHT NOW!

TIA.

There should be a secret database of all people with mental health problems that database is kept secure until anyone on it tries to legally purchase a firearm. Then it kicks in and alerts the seller that this person in question has a history of mental problems and is not suitable for gun ownership.

No sale, now that person might go on and acquire a gun by illegal means but at least makes it less easy for them to get a gun like Seung Hui Cho walking into Walmart and buying two pistols and ammo like slim jims over the counter.

Weren't Australians forced to surrender their guns?

Australians never had a constitutional right to bear arms.

Only assault weapons and semi-automatic weapons with more than a 10 round capacity. Technically you can still have most of them if you have a category D licence (Collector/Dealer).

Most people over the age of 18 can obtain a legal firearm, it's just a fairly complicated process now to obtain a gun licence, and then a permit to acquire.

I agree with that & I agree with the laws that are in place. I agree that anyone who wants to purchase a gun should have complete & thorough background checks and I think anyone who purchases a gun for someone who can't should be hung in the town square.

RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - Midwest Spy - 06-11-2013

The problem is, gun nutters don't want any background checks or laws against straw purchases.

As we discovered after the elementary school massacre:

If you have kids and love them, your only way to truly protect them is to simply hope and pray they aren't the ones in the middle of the next school shooting.

That's it. There's nothing else.

RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - HairOfTheDog - 06-11-2013

Straw purchases are already illegal. Thankfully, the punishment for breaking that law is getting harsher too.

I've yet to hear an argument against making background checks universal, regardless of the type or point of purchase/transfer, that wasn't born of stubbornness, politics, or defeatism at the effort associated with implementation. IMO.

Good control laws that are enforced rigidly alleviate the need for bans in order to minimize gun violence. In my view.

I don't see a problem with that. I think it should be a fairly complicated process to purchase a firearm. They make everything else a "fairly complicated process", I don't see why deadly weapons should be excluded.

RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - SIXFOOTERsez - 06-11-2013

I have never had a problem with background checks, always thought them to be a very good idea. The problem arises when the antigun nuts decide to implement such a thing, they can't do it without plugging all kinds of other shit that has nothing to do with background checks.
I don't see a need for the process to be complicated, but it should be through.

RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - Midwest Spy - 06-11-2013

Yes, Six, it should be very thorough, and I'd argue that if there's ANY history of mental instability in your immediate family, a gun sale should be denied.

That should be able to be part of the process.

Would it ever happen in real life?

Of course not.

We all know the NRA can destroy any politician's career if they want to.

So you have no problem with YOUR name being in the secret list? You have a documented history of mental illness. Would you consider yourself someone that should own a gun?

RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - Carsman - 06-11-2013

Thorough Background checks are a must, no short cuts, deviations of laws, no politics, no exceptions. However, background checks are only the beginning. Types of weapons is paramount. IMHO.

IMHO. Military mass assault type weapons are used in Military "warfare", so as to make one solider be able to kill as many of the enemy as possible. Logical rational.

The second amendment allows "civilians" to own weapons, if they were: six shot handgun, bolt action rifle, shotgun, no problem. The problem comes when "civilians" want and get mass assault weapons.

Many won't like this, but even a 9 mm with a15 up to 30 shot magazine could be considered a mass assault weapon.

Because there never is a time that comes when the killing of as many civilians is required, is there?
When a nut job gets/has a mass assault weapon, the consequence turns into a Batman movie massacre & or Newtown massacre. (Recient) (Unfortunately, there are many nut jobs out there, so don't make assult weapons easily available)

I have no problem whatsoever with being on the secret list I have a history of mental health problems and should never be allowed access to firearms in case I relapse.

Lol.

On the contrary I am an excellent marksman and experienced hunter if I was on the rampage you would never hear or see me coming and if I shot you you would be dead. There would be 0% injuries I can shoot the whiskers off a cats face at more than 100 yards.

If I ever do go on a gun rampage it will be the worst one in UK history. If I was so inclined I could have the entire county of Northumberland on lockdown for weeks.

You would be easy to spot in your pink bunny suit.

I'm saving the pink bunny suit for my daughters 21st birthday party.
