RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - SIXFOOTERsez - 06-02-2015 Only way is to do followups on them by LE, check their homes, cars etc.. RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - FAHQTOO - 06-02-2015 I don't believe anyone or anything will ever be able to stop someone from doing these killings...whether they're mental or just plain evil. RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - Blindgreed1 - 06-02-2015 Who's to say that if he didn't have any guns that he wouldn't have killed them with a knife or baseball bat? The bodies were found with "numerous gun shot wounds" so clearly he intended to kill them. If someone wants to kill someone bad enough, they will find a way to do it regardless of the instrument. RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - Midwest Spy - 06-02-2015 HotD, to answer your question, it doesn't matter. Gun laws won't change and whack jobs will ALWAYS find a way to get their hands on one (usually legally purchased). Just hope/pray that a) you and your loved ones aren't one of those in the wrong place at the wrong time and if you are, b) hope that there's a 'good guy' with a gun nearby. lol RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - HairOfTheDog - 06-24-2015 I don't know why this kinda surprised me, especially from a GOP Presidential Candidate, but it did. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker signed two new gun bills into law today. He was slated to sign them earlier this month, but held off a few days in light of the church shooting massacre in Charleston. One bill Walker signed eliminates the state's 48-hour waiting period on handgun purchases. The other allows retired officers carry guns on school property. Walker was joined by Republican lawmakers and families that supported the measures, which had bipartisan support in passing the state Legislature earlier this month. Personally, I think 48 hours is a very reasonable wait time for a weapon (or "tool", for those who prefer) and don't think retired police officers should be given preferential carry privileges. Ah well, it'll probably help him garner more NRA donations and maybe pick up a few more votes. RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - SIXFOOTERsez - 06-24-2015 Hmmm...some good, some bad. I don't have a problem with retired cops carrying The 48 hr thing is an inconvenience, but thats a bonus of getting a CCW, other than that I think its a good thing to have RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - Duchess - 06-24-2015 (06-24-2015, 07:43 PM)HairOfTheDog Wrote: don't think retired police officers should be given preferential carry privileges. I don't either! They can be as fucked up & unstable as anyone else. I cop in Jersey recently followed his estranged wife in traffic and got out and shot her to death in front of their 7 yr. old. And, don't forget the retired Police Captain (Reeves) in Florida-- the one who was illegally carrying his weapon when he shot and killed a man for texting during the movie previews. RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - Jimbone - 06-24-2015 70 people killed in just Chicago and Baltimore so far this June. And even an outright ban on guns won't stop it... It's a socioeconomic and cultural problem. Deal with that, and the gun violence problem is solved. RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - HairOfTheDog - 06-24-2015 I don't know Jimbone. I don't think socioeconomic and cultural problems were what caused... this retired middle-class suburban Police Captain and grandfather to blow away this hard-working middle-class suburban husband and father at the matinee In fact, I know socioeconomic and cultural problems weren't the cause. It just seems that a lot of States are just making it easier to obtain weapons. What the fuck is wrong with waiting 48 hours? Oh yeah, his/her prey may escape....and as I have said a million times, just because you are a cop, doesn't mean you are not a sociopath....retired or not...I would like to slap that grin off his friggin' face. dumb fucker......sorry, sometimes i have a tantrum over this issue.....has everyone lost their mind.... RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - Jimbone - 06-24-2015 Way to twist the point I was making about overall gun violence. The gun violence problem in the US is the out of control shooting that is going on in metropolitan areas every single day by young men - mostly minorities. That is why the US has nearly 12K people killed a year by guns in homicides. And the causes there are cultural and socioeconomic. That was clearly the point I was making. RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - HairOfTheDog - 06-24-2015 You're high, Jimbone. First, we were talking about Walker doing away with the 48 hour wait period in his state, and giving retired cops preferential carry rights. Then, we were giving specific examples as to why we (Duchess and I) don't think the latter is a good idea. At which point, you came in with the cultural and socioeconomic blame for gun violence. So, clearly, you skipped the segway or changed the subject altogether. Regardless, my point stands. Cultural and socioeconomic problems are not to blame for all gun violence and not the cases we were discussing. But, I agree that cultural and socioeconomic problems likely contribute to many cases of gun violence. But yes, I skipped and changed... and I'm glad you can see what I was saying. I wasn't trying to minimize the codger with the gun. RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - Duchess - 06-25-2015 What's the problem people have with waiting 48 hrs.? I don't want people going into a store and buying a gun like they would buy a pack of gum. Jesus. I don't know why gun advocates have such a big fuckin' problem with waiting and with background checks. Fuck you fuckin' people. RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - SIXFOOTERsez - 06-25-2015 The thing with the "retired cops" getting "Preferential Treatment" I read in here. Without reading the text of the new law, it seems that the purpose was to make it possible to use retired cops as armed security, maybe the existing laws preclude anyone except badged active duty police from carrying on school property. I don't think they should get any manner of preferential treatment either, if they are qualified they should be allowed to carry wherever anyone else is. If not then they should not. Could be its just another poorly written law leaving a shitload of loopholes. I don't have any misgivings about keeping a 48 hr wait, here in Fl its 3 days. Like I posted before, its a minor inconvenience but nothing more and with a CCW there is no wait. RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - HairOfTheDog - 06-25-2015 If I understand correctly Six, the new Wisconsin law allows any off-duty police officer or retired police officer to carry guns on school grounds. It's not a law authorizing schools to hire off-duty or retired cops as armed security officers. Before the law was passed, state law generally banned people from possessing guns on school grounds as well as within 1,000 feet of school grounds, except for police officers acting in their official capacity. Those with a CC license were exempt from the 1,000 feet rule, I think, but couldn't legally carry inside the school grounds. The new law allows off-duty and retired officers to carry guns inside school grounds. A more broad proposal to allow anyone to carry concealed weapons on school grounds was defeated. RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - Jimbone - 06-25-2015 (06-25-2015, 04:44 AM)Duchess Wrote: Most of those laws were put into place when background checks were not instantaneous like they are today with NICS. It was less about reducing crimes of passion, and more about the speed it took to clear someone. That said, I have no problem with a reasonable waiting period (48-72 hours isn't unreasonable to me). RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - Duchess - 06-25-2015 (06-25-2015, 10:54 AM)Jimbone Wrote: That said, I have no problem with a reasonable waiting period (48-72 hours isn't unreasonable to me). I haven't seen any gun owners in Mock, nor in my real life, who have a problem with a waiting period or background checks but I frequently read about it online. RE: GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, OR DO THEY? - Cutz - 06-25-2015 Personally I think it's a moot conversation. All you need is a 3-d printer. |
