Fuck those stupid piece of shit cops, they should be arrested. How exactly are you fearing for your life when you shoot some kid 8 times in the back? The kid wasn't running towards them with the toy gun, they went trigger happy on him from behind.
I guess the moral of this story is not to let your kid play with BB guns or toy guns and never knock on some motherfuckers door in an emergency because everyone is going ape shit crazy with their real guns.

Bothers me that Gelhaus claims not to remember whether he identified himself as "police" when he yelled at Lopez to drop the gun. There were witnesses and a deputy-in-training at and near the scene, so he can't claim that he did if he didn't. If you're a kid in a rough area and someone rolls up behind you and yells at you, I think you're gonna start turning around to see WTF is up before you do anything else. That's what Lopez was doing when he was shot to death. Gelhaus wasn't forced to react in seconds to a life-or-death situation and he wasn't alone. He and his partner saw Lopez walking in a parking lot and decided to approach him. The deputies had time to think, assess and plan ahead of time before approaching. Did Gelhaus just assume Lopez was a gang-banger? Could well be. I don't think he planned on killing a kid that day, but if he killed Lopez because he made a bunch of wrong assumptions and acted on them recklessly, he's liable and should be held accountable in my book. "Ooops, sorry, it was an accident", doesn't cut it. Neither does blaming the kid for carrying a toy or turning towards someone who was yelling at him.

The point I'm trying to make you fucking mongoloid meathead is that innocent children should NEVER have to fear being shot and killed by police officers EVER! I don't care if its Northumberland England in the late 70s/early 80s or LA in 2013 innocent children should never have to fear death by cop I dont care how violent their environment might be. In Hill Street Blues instead of saying “let's be careful out there” the duty sergeant should have said “let's not kill innocent children out there” apparently they need to be fucking reminded of this.

I don't sanction killing kids but the reality is there are some vicious lil' bastards out there that would sooner slit your throat than look at you. You see almost daily the horror they are capable of. They are not all innocent youngsters, society is filled with young psychos.

L.A. and the LAPD are far down the list of most dangerous places/orgs in the world or in the U.S., in terms of violent crime. Not every snippet you see in the news that takes place in a particular county or city applies generally to the whole of the region. Just to be safe though, don't dare visit New York City, San Francisco, Chicago, New Orleans, Washington D.C....without a hand grenade in your bulletproof backpack, CN! Wait...upon reflection, I can see how the major counties/cities of the U.S. would certainly be way too dangerous for a cream puff like you altogether, though they're visited by retirees and school children from all over the world on a daily basis. Safest best for you is probably to hole up at home, curled up in fear, shooting blanks at disaster victims from behind a computer screen.

HotD, I wonder if one of the problems may be that Banafornia has such strict gun laws that anytime a cop sees a gun, or what looks like a gun, they immediately think the person holding it is a criminal. Since you live there, what do you think? Does the sight of a firearm really freak most people out that bad out there?
11-13-2013, 08:12 PM
I can't speak for all Californians, but simply seeing someone with a gun doesn't freak me out.
CN's implication that it's unsafe for anyone to leave his/her home in all of Los Angeles is funny to me. The suggestion that police officers in California might sometimes shoot mistakenly, as occurs in all states regardless of the specific gun laws, because of bans strikes me as even funnier. Common sense dictates that California police officers, especially in major cities, see guns all of the time. They see them in training, they see them on fellow officers, they see them at the gun range, they see them in some security positions... And, you've made the point yourself many times in this thread, F.U., that bans don't keep guns outta the hands of criminals. If that's true, then obviously police officers in all states see guns on-the-job. Irregardless, police officers in all states are trained on how to handle situations involving perps and potential perps with guns. A police officer who freaks out at the sight of a gun that is not threatening him/her does not belong on the job, in California or Iowa. In the case of Lopez, the officer involved was a 24-year veteran of the police force, a military veteran, a gun trainer, a hunter... He saw guns a lot, on and off the job. Makes as much sense to ponder whether his enthusiasm for guns and the large part they played in his life clouded his judgment and made him trigger-happy, at least as much sense as it does to ponder whether gun legislation was a major factor contributing to his fatal error. IMO.

Just to make a couple of points here:
1. I have no idea about that particular kid, he may have been a genuine choir boy and all that. On the other hand he was walking around on the street with a weapon that by all appearances was a fuking AK47 2. Since Cali has no open cary laws, EVERYONE that a police officer sees carrying a gun around in the open IS a fucking criminal, by ignorance or choice. 3. A Short guy can kill you as dead as anyone else with an automatic weapon 4. Why in the blue fuck would you allow your kid out on the street with something like that KNOWING what a fucked up place the world is? 5. True, no kid should have to fear for his life from a police officer, but Freedom Isn't Free, it has consequences, Don't Do Stupid Shit

Ok HotD, I think you misunderstood me.
My thought is because they gun laws are so strict the cops out there don't see guns on the average citizen there like they do here. Here you can walk down the street with, or have a UZI hanging in the back window of your truck and the cops cant even make you show them the firearm or ask for your permit. In Banafornia the rules are so tight that it is out of the ordinary for the average Joe to be walking down the street with a AK47. So if that's the case it is going to put that cop on edge. I didn't say that the cop would freak out at the sight of a gun. I think they would be on alert if they seen one though. What I asked is if people and when I said people I meant John Q Public, freaked out that easily.

Kids 12 yrs old are capable, if trained correctly. THAT is a fact. Be it environmental or societal. And the good or bad thing is you only need about a year to turn a loving warm puppy pissing kid into a cold blooded killer with the right tools. Sad but true. It does not forgive the foregoing story but this shit happens all over the world. You just see it more in advanced societies because access is unlimited, pretty much. I understood, F.U. Thanks.
If a cop sees a weapon or what appears to be a weapon being carried openly in public here, he/she is going to check it out. If the weapon or apparent weapon is one that's banned, the carrier will be considered as committing a crime. As for the rest, same answer, restated: If "people" see guns out in public here, whether they freak out or not will, of course, depend on the person and the situation. I personally don't freak out easily about many things and can't speak for others. If the "people" referenced are cops and they freak out, they don't belong on the job.

Bans in California apply to certain types of guns, and to openly carrying for most people, not all. In most public places, not all. Of course, the gun range, hunting, etc... are fine for open carry, for qualified gun owners. There are also professions where open carry is authorized and instances where a private business owner's concealed carry permit will allow for the gun to be visible, etc, etc, etc... Police officers in California are aware of state gun laws and they're not typically blind, so they'd know that the claim that "EVERYONE seen carrying a gun around IS a fucking criminal, either by ignorance or choice" is bullshit. Though open carry is similarly limited in Florida, cops there (or any state, really) would recognize the statement as bullshit as well, I imagine.

More Dipshit Parents Arrested (good)
ASHEBORO, NC A 3-year-old girl is in the hospital after she was shot Tuesday afternoon and 2 adults were charged on Wednesday. According to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, the girl was shot by another 3-year-old in an Asheboro home on Cameron Circle. Deputies said a woman at the home was cleaning when she heard a gunshot come from the room where three children were playing. Investigators say an unsecured 22 cal rifle was in the room. The girl was shot in the arm, and the bullet continued into her abdominal area. She is in stable condition. (Great news) She is the daughter of William Simmons. The other 3-year-old who shot her is the son of Simmon's girlfriend, Melissa Mumpower. There was an 18-month-old in the room at the time as well. Jesus. All of the children have been removed from the home and are in CPS care. Prosecutors charged William Monroe Simmons and Melisa Ann Mumpower (pictured above) each with Failing to Store Firearm to Protect Minor, Felony Child Abuse and three counts of Misdemeanor Child Abuse. Officers arrested Simmons and Mumpwer at the hospital. They are each in jail. A magistrate set Simmons' bond at $35,500; Mompower's at $6,300 (I don't know why his is so much higher - could be he owns the house and the guns therein). |
