KSTP.com has uncovered new details about the man who police say committed a sex act on a school bus last month. According to the Department Corrections, 53-year-old Michael Friedrichs is a convicted level 3 sex offender.
Police say Friedrichs posed as a student, boarding an occupied school bus and committing a sex act on March 17th in Minneapolis. After a month long investigation, officers arrested Friedrichs Wednesday.
According to police, Friedrichs hid his face with a hooded sweatshirt and carried a backpack when he boarded a school bus heading to Seward Montessori School. Investigators say he slashed several seats with a sharp object and performed a sex act while up to nine students were onboard.
The school bus driver told police he thought the suspect was a student until Friedrichs exited the bus more than a mile later.
Friedrichs was charged Thursday with fifth degree criminal sexual conduct. He is currently in custody at Hennepin County Jail.
