In yesterday's case, I prefaced after having more knowledge of the circumstances, that I thought the crew had done everything they could at the time. The crew, as you can imagine, feels tons of guilt. Ultimately, they're responsible for their aircraft and who it injures/kills.
In the San Diego instance, if you read the report, you'll see there were tons of errors, and 4 people didn't need to die. The pilot was a TRAINEE, with no experienced pilot with him (like yesterday).

The comment was made that 'They should have went down with their plane, much in the same way the retarded ship's captain should have went down with his ship.' My point was why should they have? The guy was doing what any good captain should do; Be responsible for the welfare of those in his care.
