My old house I had an HOA. When I bought it they were pretty laid back, inexpensive and took care of the pool and common areas. After I was there about 8 years there had been a lot of turnover with the bubble thing out here and all that. Assholes had come in and no one wanted to serve on the board so they "Outsourced" the management.
The "Management" company is doing this for profit, so the dues went up immediately and they decided "Revenue" was needed, so they hired Nazis that didn't even live there to come around and check your place over for any violations of the new rules they slipped in with no one voting on so they could write Fines and generate cash.
I got out of there after 10 years and missed the peak of the bubble by about 45 minutes and $300 on my house, could not have done any better if I tried.
So glad I do not have an HOA now, even dealing with the drug dealer that used to live down the street, I knew he wouldn't last forever. Life is good without the Nazis
