Bamboo can be managed. During the May-June growth cycle simply cut it with a hedge trimmer once a week to about 1-2 feet high. It's easy to do since these new shoots are succulent and not "woody". By July the new shoots stop and the bamboo remains dwarfed until it makes new attempts to grow the next May. Of course, if you are dealing with a mature stand and it's already woody, you must get out the lopers tool and cut each stalk as close to the ground as possible.
