Maybe this is a common misconception and that is why more people are murdered with knives? Or maybe it's because people who murder with knives don't realize how deadly a knife is? Or maybe those who murder with guns aren't very good shots? All points to consider for sure, but it brings us right back to the main issue doesn't it? If more people are murdered with knives that are murdered with assault rifles, why are so many people bound and determined to make the AR-15 illegal when a more deadly implement of destruction goes under the radar. Are we truly concerned for public safety and making an attempt to do something about it or are gun laws another form of "Security Theater?" Looking at the statistics for California and Illinois (toughest gun laws in the country) i'd say it's akin to taking your shoes off in the airport. In 2013, there were 5,782 murders by handgun in the U.S. According to FBI data, 20 percent of those — 1,157 of the 5,782 handgun murders — happened in Illinois and California, which have two of the toughest state gun control regimes in the entire country. And even though California and Illinois contain about 16 percent of the nation’s population, those two states are responsible for over 20 percent of the nation’s handgun murders.

I'm not bound and determined to ban any guns because I believe it would keep people from murdering each other, that wasn't my argument. My only argument was that I would have a better chance of survival with a mass murderer with a single knife than a mass murderer with a gun. And that argument remains the same.

I actually knew two people who were stabbed to death. The one guy got into a fight and was stabbed right in the heart and died instantly. The other guy was in a bar fight, stabbed multiple times and died on the way to the hospital. I think statistically I have higher chances of being killed by a knife in a one on one fight than killed in a movie theater mass shooting for example. But that wasn't my argument.
