The Chicago Police Department said goodbye to one of their own recently with a traditional last call.
βAll units standby,β a dispatcher said Sunday. β7323 canine Rachel. 7323 canine Rachel. No response for canine Rachel. This is a final call for Chicago Police Explosives canine Rachel.β K-9 Rachel was put down 15 minutes later.
Rachel's spine had been left partially paralyzed due to cancer. She had lived and worked with her handler Officer Charles Kocanda for 10 years and served as an explosives detection K-9 for the Transportation Security Administration.
Rachel had also served and protected the president, first lady, and dignitaries during her career.
