And it wasn't for sporting a criminally goofy hairdo.
Brandon Ziobrowski, 33, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, was arrested Thursday morning after posting on Twitter in July that he would give $500 to anyone who would kill an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent.
Starting in February, he began to post tweets promoting violence against law enforcement. In March he began tweeting threatening messages about ICE, according to the indictments.
On July 2, he tweeted: "I am broke but I will scrounge and literally give $500 to anyone who kills an ice agent. @me seriously who else can pledge get it on this let's make it work." His Twitter account was suspended later that month at the request of law enforcement.
Investigators found that Ziobrowski's Twitter showed multiple expressions of 'extreme anti-US sentiments along with violent rhetoric regarding guns and numerous references to extreme communist, socialist and anarchist' views, according to FBI special agent Harold H Shaw.
The 33-year-old had also allegedly tweeted about his desire to kill Arizona Sen John McCain, and said guns 'should only be legal for shooting the police like the second amendment intended,' according to prosecutors.
The case was developed by the Joint Terrorism Task Force in Boston, and Ziobrowksi was arrested in New York at 7:15 a.m.
He made his first appearance in federal court in Brooklyn today and will face a charge of using interstate commerce to transmit a threat to injure another. Good, get this guy off the streets before he hurts or kills somebody.
I don't know his politics, but it sure seems he took some of the far left anti-ICE positions to the extreme and was motivated by it.
Hopefully, we'll see similar crackdowns on people who issue or allude to death threats against non-law enforcement citizens on social media too; hiding behind the first amendment to endanger public safety is bullshit. Too many of the recent mass killers have made it crystal clear what they were planning to do in advance, in some cases with the full knowledge of law enforcement.
