There are different social classes of people and the women wear colors that reflect that. Their rights have been stripped and some are forced into having babies. The world as they knew it has changed. I think I read the book years ago but it's very vague. The only reason I know a little is from things I've read online.
I did watch all of season 1 by the way. (I don't think that came out in my above posts)
My version of the show synopsis: For some reason the wives of these high powered men cannot have babies-so they have these handmaids, and the handmaids have sex with the husbands, but the wives are there too.
And the handmaids are treated like shit, and then they are prisioners, it sucks, and people who disobey get hung and they stay there for people to walk by them. It is gross.
I don't even know how or why I made it through season 1, now thinking about it.
So......is there a show on hulu or netflix you want to watch? I just finished re watching Mad Men again and need/want something else to watch now.
