LYING LIARS
#1

A man has been arrested & sentenced to eight months in jail for teaching people how to "pass" a lie detector. What do you think about this? Keep in mind, most if not all courts don't let the results of the lie detector in anyway. His attorney argued this fell under free speech and while the court agreed to an extent a sentence was handed down to deter others. I think this is bullshit. Do I need to say this is only my opinion?

No. It IS bullshit. I don't know how he was making any money at it (if he was charging people for the service). You can just Google it and get instructions there if you want.

BTW, a word of advice. If someone says "promise not to tell ______" ALWAYS say no until you know what you're dealing with.

My husband made me promise not to tell my mother and sister (immediate family) something last night and I agreed. Then he spilled it and I'm about to explode with the damn secret. Taz I think my family has a right to know; it's about my side of the family for chrissake but he wouldn't budge on the topic this morning.

He didn't say I couldn't tell Mock though. Smiley_emoticons_fies Hmmmmm....

Doesn't sound like there was really a crime committed by Dixon.

If he'd have aided the criminals he taught in committing their crimes (rather than being deceptive about them after the fact), I'd think he would have been specifically charged with that instead.

Even though I think it's bullshit, since he chose to teach convicted child molesters how to deceive others about those crimes (while he was coaching a Little League team), it doesn't bother me that he will be doing a little time and facing 3 years of parole upon release. Maybe it should, but it doesn't.

I haven't read into this too much, I only skimmed the article, but did he knowingly teach the convicted child molesters, or were they simply customers with no known history to him?

If Mr Dixon knows nothing about his customers then its akin to a weapons dealer selling an AR 14 to a mass murderer. I haven't seen the people that sold the guns to any of your massacre-ists doing any time lately, or the car salesman that sold the cars to the drunk drivers that ran over a citizen..

I'm assuming that he knew, based on the fact that he traveled the country to meet his customers and because he knew the purported background of the undercover agent who popped him. Plus, he seemed to be familiar with specific types of screening questions that would be asked for different kinds of positions: LE, NSA, etc..

But, you're right. It could be Dixon didn't know about his clients' backgrounds and taught the same techniques to whomever paid him without asking questions. If that's the case, I feel more badly for him.

From another piece about the case:

Prosecutors said authorities were first tipped to Dixon’s business in April 2011, when a Customs and Border Protection applicant caught using polygraph countermeasures told investigators he had learned them from Dixon.

Investigators eventually sent in undercover agents to “see just how far Mr. Dixon was willing to go,” Phillips said. He said that one agent told Dixon he was having a sexual relationship with an underage girl, and Dixon responded that he did not care because the girl was not his own daughter.

That looks like where he stepped over the line, fuck him. He was running an edgy risky business and knew it.
He was probably ok until then, at least they didn't have direct evidence of any wrong doing.
Not to many reasons I can think of for "Honest" people to need to know how to beat a lie detector. I know that if I knew I was interviewing someone that had the training I would be very hesitant about hiring hem.
