IRAQ NEEDS HELP (WARNING: GRAPHIC PIX)
I'd agree if we were simply torturing Al-Jazeera journalists.

Hehe. He said torturing.

I've decided to blame all this bullshit on George Bush & Dick Cheney. Yes, I have. You think Saddam would have let any of this come to pass? No fuckin' way. We invaded a country & opened Pandora's box. Most, if not all in Washington don't want to get involved other than with airstrikes. They created this mess, they need to clean it up.

MOCKING IS FUNDAMENTAL

The Islamic State group uses rather sophisticated social media strategies to recruit and spread their propaganda. While IS has been successful in recruiting extremists from around the world, they are largely condemened in and outside of the Middle East, by all accounts.

Recently, some Middle Easterners who oppose IS have taken to social media themselves to mock and ridicule IS.

^ When the IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi made a rare public appearance in Mosul in July (video posted upthread), social media users rushed to mock the expensive-looking watch that had slipped out from under the self-styled Caliph's robe.

The IS jihadist group also produces a pretty slick magazine, packed with news, propaganda and recruitment ads. That too is being mocked.

^ The real deal........................................^The mockers' vision

While there are those who criticize the mockery for being insensitive and inappropriate, others defend satire as a way to push back at the Islamic State's intimidation tactics.

"Sometimes, you have to mock, to belittle. Because sometimes, belittlement is your enemy's greatest fear," Libyan-American writer Hend Amry wrote on Twitter.

I like it.

I think it's awesome they are being mocked! I'd join twitter if I knew where to find some of those savages. I'd love the opportunity to mock them, I say from the safety of my home.

I found a twitter page that I think belongs to someone associated with ISIS, I can't be sure because I don't read Arabic but his pix are incredible. I feel like they are pix that not just anyone would have access to.

You'll notice the kid carrying the head. Jesus.

IS Sends Second Video Message to America -- Beheads Steven Sotloff

Mr. Sotloff is the journalist threatened at the end of the Foley decapitation video.

The Sotloff decapitation video also threatens the life of British captive, David Haines, and warns the British government "back-off and leave our people alone."

Sotloff speaks to the camera before he is killed, saying he is "paying the price" for U.S. intervention.

The masked ISIS figure in the video speaks to U.S. President Barack Obama, telling him, "Just as your missiles continue to strike our people, our knife will continue to strike the necks of your people." The video begins with a short excerpt from a speech by US President Barack Obama on the fight against terror, followed by text that reads: "A second message to America". The IS fighter, who suggests he is the same man who killed Mr Foley, then appears to behead Mr. Sotloff.

Steven Sotloff disappeared while reporting from Syria in August 2013, but his family kept the news secret, fearing harm to him if they went public. Out of public view, the family and a number of government agencies have been trying to gain Sotloff's release for the past year.

Sotloff, 31, grew up in South Florida with his mother, father and younger sister. He majored in journalism at the University of Central Florida. His personal Facebook page lists musicians like the Dave Matthews Band, Phish, Miles Davis and movies like "Lawrence of Arabia" and "The Big Lebowski" as favorites. On his Twitter page, he playfully identifies himself as a "stand-up philosopher from Miami."

He graduated from another college, began taking Arabic classes and subsequently picked up freelance writing work for a number of publications, including Time, Foreign Policy, World Affairs and the Christian Science Monitor. His travels took him to Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey -- among other countries -- and eventually Syria.

RIP Steven Sotloff.

I thought they would but it's still very saddening to read they have.

I'm sorry that we have to consider the lives of innocent people before we can send those bitches straight to hell. I want all those savages to pay with their lives.

I watched a video of a missile hitting one of their vehicles. It made me happy to see them blown to smithereens. Maybe I'm turning into a savage.

I'ma savage too, I guess. I saw the same video and didn't bat an eye. Then I read the comments, and no one else did either...it's all good.

The reality of IS in Syria and Iraq is sustained savage attacks on civilians. So, Iraqi and US Air Forces are striking armed IS vehicles to thwart them.

While I wish none of it was happening, the videos bring no tears to my eyes either.

WARNING -- GRAPHIC
This is the referenced combat cam video of the US airstrikes on the IS armed truck at the Mosul Dam last month.

The Iraqi Ministry of Defense released combat cam video of their bombing on an ISIS military installation back in July as well.

I agree with Maggot's comment upthread; prolonged targeted airstrikes can severely weaken IS in Iraq (though I did read today that Obama has also authorized additional troops be sent to Iraq to protect American interests there; bringing the total to 1,000).

Oh boy. ISIS is threatening Putin now -

In a video on Al-Arabiya TV channel, an ISIS rebel sits in the cockpit of a captured Russian-made fighter aircraft in the Tabak area of the Syrian province of Rakka.

A second fighter warns: 'This message is addressed to you, oh Vladimir Putin. These are your aircraft which you sent to Bashar, and with the help of Allah we will send them back to you.

'Remember this. And with the permission of Allah we will liberate Chechnya and all the Caucasus.

"The Islamic State exists and it will exist and it will expand with the help of Allah. Your throne is already shaking. It is in danger and it will collapse when we get to you. We are on the way with Allah's permission.'

hah

I don't know why it's so funny to me that you've been creepin' a terrorist.

Did you ever actually have an exchange with him?

It's funny to me too. I told a couple people that care about me, you shoulda seen the look on their faces. Makes me laugh to recall it. 113

No, I never interacted with him at all but only because it was all in Arabic. I know I could have translated but I wasn't willing to invest that kind of time into a terrorist whose tweets I want to read. I looked at his pix though, sometimes through my fingers. I won't say I've become blase' when seeing headless corpse' or a child holding a head like a soccer ball or lunch box but I have hardened a tiny bit. We've all seen the horror they inflict but his mundane photographs were obscene to me as well and the video of driving down a beautiful seaside city street gave me the willies. One picture showed fruit and cheese cut on a plate that laid on a blanket by a lovely lake. It creeped me the fuck out. It's normalcy was freaky.

I'm going to look for an English posting terrorist this time.

hah Shit. Try Jihadi John.

He's come up in some of the news I've been reading over the last couple of years.

He's the English rapper who joined IS and is reportedly on the short list of potential journalist executioners.

He's a right cocky mofo (not the good kind, obviously).

I don't know about Twitter, Duchess, but the asshole uses Facebook to post his jihadi exploits.

His real name is Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary and his rap name was L Jinny.
