TYPHOON KILLS 10,000

Posted this thread in this sub-forum because it didn't really fit elsewhere.

It's now estimated that 10,000 people in the Philippines have died as a result of what's being called one of the worst recorded storms in history; devastating amount of destruction.

Super typhoon Haiyan destroyed about 70 to 80 percent of structures in its path as it tore through Leyte province on Friday, said police chief superintendent Elmer Soria, before weakening and heading west for Vietnam.

As rescue workers struggled to reach ravaged villages along the coast, where the death toll is as yet unknown, survivors foraged for food or searched for lost loved ones.

"People are walking like zombies looking for food," said Jenny Chu, a medical student in Leyte. "It's like a movie."

Most of the deaths appear to have been caused by surging sea water strewn with debris that many said resembled a tsunami, leveling houses and drowning hundreds of people in one of the worst disasters to hit the typhoon-prone Southeast Asian nation.

The national government and disaster agency have not confirmed the latest estimate of deaths, a sharp increase from initial estimates on Saturday of at least 1,200 killed by a storm whose sustained winds reached 195 miles per hour (313 km per hour) with gusts of up to 235 mph (378 kph).

"We had a meeting last night with the governor and the other officials. The governor said, based on their estimate, 10,000 died," Soria told Reuters. "The devastation is so big."

Nearly 480,000 people were displaced and 4.5 million "affected" by the typhoon in 36 provinces, the national disaster agency said, as relief agencies called for food, water, medicines and tarpaulins for the homeless.

US, Australia, WFP offering early assistance
The U.S. embassy said it would provide $100,000 for health, water and sanitation support. Australia said it would provide an initial 15.5 million pesos ($358,900) in relief supplies.

The World Food Programme said it was airlifting 40 tonnes of high-energy biscuits, enough to feed 120,000 people for a day, as well as emergency supplies and communications equipment.

It is truly unbelievable, the extent and severity of the damage. I can't imagine what the end numbers of life loss will be.

All the victims were none white and none Christian heathens and they are all going to hell because they don't believe in the lord Jebus.

IDK, CN. If God or Mother Nature managed to find, isolate and exclusively target an estimated 10,000 people who don't believe in Jesus (in one of the most Christian regions on the planet) that would truly be miraculous. Looks more like this is a natural disaster/tragedy on a massive scale than an evil miracle, to me.

Anyway, there is undoubtedly a lot of praying underway in the Philippines and for the Philippines as the typhoon damage continues to be assessed and hundreds of thousands are left struggling for basic needs as they bury or search for loved ones.

It's bleak - there are reportedly lots of dead bodies on land and in the water in the worst hit areas; relief agencies are concerned about the additional health risks that presents as survivors search for water and consume it from untested underground wells.

Roads, hospitals, electricity - all disabled in Leyte province, but operating on a limited basis today - 3 days after the storm first hit.

This morning, U.S. Marines arrived to assist in relief efforts.

The storm has moved towards Vietnam and 5 have reportedly been killed there.

It's horrible & I've stopped watching coverage of it. Their pain is palpable.

They should put all the debris in the ocean preferably in a current heading towards Japan.

Me too.

I saw interviews with women who couldn't hold on to their children in the wind and people waiting for food and water to arrive, noses plugged because there's nowhere to move the dead bodies, etc...

Really hard to watch.

I know relief workers are having a very hard time getting to the people who need it most - I admire those workers a lot and hope they make it through safely.

They all look a bit brown and slanty eyed to me. At least all the children that died won't have to work in the paedophile sex tourism trade. Better to be swept away by a typhoon than be found dead in a back alley with an anus like a clowns sleeve. So thankful for small mercies all in all.

You're such a prick, CN. Smiley_emoticons_fies

Over 90% of Filipinos are Christian and many of them have big round eyes, you ignoramus.

I hope Mo comes back around and attempts to straighten you out about all things Asian and Middle Eastern again.

I am only offering an alternative perspective.

I care as much about the thousands of slanty eyed floaters in the Philippines as much as some people here care about the thousands of Afghan farmers, civilians and children killed by the US airforce and British RAF.

I.E - not a lot!

Which of course makes all the difference to some people.

Pfft...

Alternate opinions are good and, in this case, it doesn't really matter that your knowledge of the subject matter is so deficient.

You got the brown part right; 1 point. 12 a point for the slanty eyes - true in some cases. 0 for implying that they're not Christians (you're the one who introduced religion into the disucssion).

That makes 1.5 outta 3.0. 50%. That's an "F".

No matter though, those brown people fighting for survival surely care less about a woefully ignorant little Brit than you care about them.

And, more Lumpia and Adobo for the rest of us.

Missed this fail on first reading.

Dude, you know jack shit when it comes to the people and country about which you're spewing. Guess what's the third largest English-speaking country in the world, after the U.S. and Great Britain?

Anyway, I don't care that you don't care about them. BUT, I do care about being accurate in my posts. So...

Correction:
1.5 outta 4.0 for CN. 37.5%. "F-".

No I can conclusively say they care more about me than I care about them. Every night on the TV and online there are appeals asking me to send them some money to help them.

So I can conclusively confirm that you are incorrect and say they most definitely care more about me than I care about them. We can sign that as dealt with and concluded and filed for posterity.

Also calling me an “ignorant little BRIT”? using the word Brit is in no way an insult its just confirming that I am indeed British and whats the one thing Britain is and will always be?

GREAT.

By calling me an “ignorant little Brit” you are in fact calling me an “ignorant little GREAT person”.

Thanks.

All the slant eyes they interviewed on the news couldn't speak English. The few that “could” spoke like a sing song pigeon English so poorly they also had subtitles it was that fucking indecipherable. The kind of lazy none English I get when call centres from India and the far east ring me. “Allo? You having internetting broadbandings? Svery cheap for you! We give wery nice price for you mister! Me love you long time!”

Yeah “English” speaking yeah?

Jesus Christ.

"Brit" isn't an insult (nor a compliment). It's just a statement of fact and applicable here since your focus and expressed view of people's worthiness in this thread is contingent upon their color and nationality (and religion and eye shape...). Just speaking in your lingo; you need all the help you can get understanding the subject matter, obviously.

Oddly enough, though, when someone else makes an ignorant statement judging strangers on the same factors using the same type of lingo, you're quick to express outrage.

Anyway, In the context of this thread, "ignorant" was also a factual descriptor, as was "little". "A" for me. "F-" for you. It's okay, it's just one thread.

Bubble burster: those brown people aren't appealing to "you" expressly, you self-absorbed ignorant little Brit. They're appealing, en masse, to everyone around the globe who might be able/willing to help them to survive. Meanwhile, you continue focusing specifically on their attributes and their worthlessness as a peoples in this thread. Thus, in fact, I do believe they care less about you than you do about them.

And, you're very welcome - I don't doubt that you've been labeled a "GREAT" so and so many times in your life and don't mind your delusional misinterpretation of my intended meaning.

So, you're most welcome, CN. 27

In her desperation to sound rational, reasonable and intellectually on the higher ground HOTD has in fact missed the point I thought I was making increasingly obvious.

I.E - I was deliberately winding her up. I thought to myself how far can take this troll with her? And the answer was up the garden path and back again.

Of course I don't consider people from the Phillipines inferior, of course I think they should get help, of course the typhoon was a terrible thing.

Who here is generally on the side of the immigrant, foreigner and none whitey around here anyway? ME! Who around here gets accused of being a liberal and a socialist? ME!

Maybe it was a troll too far but that's all it was.
