Double Standard
#21
I just accompanied my GF to family court to formally gain custody of her grandson who she's raised essentially from birth. So now it's official, and she's still young enough that people will likely confuse her as his mother (and me his father probably). Although there is much less surprise at unconventional family arrangements, I still get the occasional jolt: my boss actually had the nerve to ask me, when I told her I needed a sick day to take care of him, if I was "legally" responsible for the kid. I yelled at her, but wanted to slap her. Some people have lots of nerve to overcome their lack of common sense, and there are still people in the world who demand "one mom, one dad" as the definition of normal. Hell, that's why gay marriage has been such a hot button here for so long, because of those kinds of bullshit arguments.

What's it like raising a little one again? Is it more fun this time around?

It takes a minute to remember that they're reliant on me for a lot more. Mine is a teenager and splits time between me and his mother. So every other weekend he comes and visits my video game system and my fridge.

But there's something awesome about watching a little dude learn everything fresh, so I'm enjoying the second go round. Plus I've learned a lot in the ensuing years so the rookie fuckups aren't quite so frequent.

Double Standard, why yes.

If a guy goes into a bar with no shoes, no shirt, he gets no service.

If a gal goes into a bar with no shoes, no shirt, she get "free drinks"! hah
