I just realized a political fact. We have republican and democrat here, not progressives! That automatically implies it they win society would progress. Well there you go.

Oh dear!

Mark there is two main parties in US. The Republican Party and the Democrats.
There are however many, many assorted political affiliations.
There are:
Alt-Right
Communists
Liberatarians
Classic Liberals
Moderate Conservatives
Progressives
Socialists/Democratic Socialists
Anarchists

There are even some overlapping borders around these groups.

Whilst Conservatives generally try to stymie new aspects of society that emerge and hold onto conserve traditional aspects of culture and society, Progressives will accept any new trend as new and therefore by virtue of its newness and difference as good. They see themselves as modern and enlightened and the resistance to their malleability as bigoted and double for holding onto tradition aspects of culture and society.
Clearly the first position is too rigid and not always wrong but a little limiting for society and the second position is insane.
These two are the two positions that are the most powerful in Western Politics. The more pervasive and ingrained is the latter.
MY personal position is not either BUT if I have to choose one over the other, I will back Conservatives over Progressives.
