Clang! You work for the state! You should want to work long enough there to be able to retire from there. What's not to like? I'd think the benefits would be great.
What's not to like? How about being in a dead end job with no room for a promotion. I asked my bosses to to retrain me on the phones last year so maybe I could pursue a supervisor position or something better paying at least. They told me they could if I wanted to, but that I really sucked on the phones. Then they said I was lucky to have my job and if I didn't like it I could leave. But they knew I couldn't leave without another job lined up. I'd like to get a new job in 2020 but I have no idea what I'd like to do or what I'd be good at.

Why would you not want a job that you got insurance a pension, benefits and not do something on the side to appease your interests? You're young and healthy, do stuff on your free time that when you retire will give you something to do and maybe some extra money. There's all kind's of stuff to do like needle point or knitting mittens. Maybe quilt making or how about birdhouses to sell to yuppies. I know ..............fly tying.
I want a state job. Just a better paying state job. But my poor communication skills and phone phobia will always be an obstacle to my success. Not even Dale Carnegie could fix me.
