Thousands in North Carolina incorrectly told they have COVID

CHARLOTTE, N.C.
A county in North Carolina incorrectly told nearly 7,000 residents they had tested positive for the coronavirus due what officials say was a technical glitch.
The messages were sent by text messages to more than 6,700 residents in Mecklenburg County on Friday, The Charlotte Observer reported. More than 500 people also received a county email with the notice.
The county told residents that morning the messages were a “scam,” and that their health department does not notify people of their COVID-19 test results through text message.
A few hours later, the county said on Twitter the messages had actually gone out due to a glitch “in the software system that has been addressed by the software provider.”
County Manager Dena Diorio told county commissioners in an email Monday that the messages were sent through HealthSpace Data System, a company based in Canada, the newspaper reported. The county has been using the company’s software since May to help with contact tracing efforts amid the pandemic.

No personal information was shared or compromised, the county said Friday on Twitter. HealthSpace CEO Silas Garrison also apologized for “any alarm this caused citizens who were not supposed to be sent an alert or survey.”
Diorio said the messages were sent to people who were in HealthSpace’s system. It is not clear if those who received the messages had tested positive for the virus or were in close contact with someone that had.
A corrected text or email was sent to those who received the incorrect messages, Diorio said in the email to commissioners.

Didn't Florida have the same issue?   I thought that I read somewhere that Florida had a ton of false positives due to a clerical error or some shit.

Florida has a huge issue with faulty tests. I mentioned in another thread that the dumbass who works for us decided he was going to use it as an excuse to play hookie. His test came back negative, but there was also a check mark next to possibly pregnant. Everyone got a big laugh out of that.

Yeah, okay.
Human beings who have never had to run tests like this in our lifetime are in charge, what makes you think we can rely on accurate numbers when thousands upon thosands of people are lining up to get tested that aren't even sick?

Yeah, okay.

It just shows it's likely that many states can and could have fucked up, they just haven't been found out or admitted it yet!

I think it's wrong not to question it. It's not denying it, it's just questioning it. Which is normal human behavior, it doesn't mean you are a Trump supporter or anything.

I live about an hour from Charlotte. I don't believe there was this huge of a mistake and I blame the one that pushed out testing because he promised every one who wanted one could get it. BTW my Niece is a RT (respiratory therapist) at a hospital in Charlotte as well as another bigger hospital about 30 miles west of Charlotte and they have ran out of ICU beds more often than not. Out of the 15 RTs that work most shifts, 9 have tested positive at some point since March (9 X 4 shifts is 36 people at her smaller hospital alone). Thank God my Niece has not because not only does she have a 6 year old along with a 9 month old that was a 32 week baby, and she lives with my elderly parents. However Niece's mentor tested + in July and is slowly recovering now and he has acquired over $900K in hospital bills and his family is likely going to lose their home by November and he will likely be deported to the African country he moved from 15 years ago because of this potential foreclosure (lots of red tape involved in this and I don't know the entire answers why). Everyone thought the white house would help pay for those bills but most of us know of those lies being given by the head orange one.

This confuses me a bit.    Why are you multiplying 9 positive tests by 4 shifts?  Do you mean that 36 people tested positive,  or were exposed?

Yea, I am calling math bullshit.
Two of my brothers, a niece and an ex sister in lay have all had it and recovered.
A lot of hospitals all over the country have "run out of ICU beds" which is true, but only because most of the hospitals rooms/wings have been shut down. This thing is serious, but its not the black plague and the response has been bullshit everywhere including here in Texas, our moron of a governor extended the "emergency declaration" last week despite 4 weeks of down trend and an infection rate under 5% of folks getting tested, the red flag number was supposed to be 10%. Assholes
