the oleander killings were vicious vandalism, if not horse industry sabotage. the florida cases are economic crimes, the meat sells for $40. a pound and more. and they get about 1000 pounds per horse.

horse owners in south florida are arming themselves and will protect their animals. ::gunner::

It's not just thugs like these people that don't have any qualms about killing a horse...There are plenty of owners who wouldn't think twice about it when they decide that the horse is worth more dead than alive...Many racehorses & stud horses are often heavily insured.

The show jumping sect also have been known to kill horses for the insurance money. There was a huge scandal some years ago where they were finding very expensive show horses mysteriously dead in the stalls. Turns out they electrocute them. I won't go into how - it's horribly inhumane.

Let's just say mink is done up the same way.

Asshole.

He wasn't happy in the thread where we spoke of eating hamsters, if I recall.

Seriously though, I can't ethically see any real difference between killing and eating a horse and killing and eating a cow, but if I had to kill my own meat, or even get to know it while it was still alive, I would be a vegetarian again.

The real tragedy is that someone is slaughtering people's beloved pets, which is like slaughtering someone's family. I hope they manage to catch the folks doing it and hurt them.
