I was born and raised in California and lived there for 40 years. Best state in the country... except for the government. And the crowding. And the high prices. But the booze is cheap!

Don't forget the smog. I remember not being able to go outside during recess because of the "red flag days". Also not being able to play in the pool. We could go in it, but couldn't play around and shit or your lungs and esophagus would feel like they were on fucking fire.

You should know where Encinitas is. That's where I've lived since 1987. Sleepy little coastal community.

It rained today, but we needed it so no hassle.

Everybody in the fucking 'bay area' is 'rich' according to the standards of the rest of the country.

You can't buy a damned house trailer there for less than $500k. I was making nearly $30/hr working full time (with a 2hr commute each way) and I was BARELY making it.

Otherwise, I loved the place. Mostly. Hayward sucked ass.

California is larger than many countries. Dick IS right. I grew up in Southern California (by the ocean thankfully) and I remember when the valley had red flag days but I *think* they've cleaned that up substantially.

Northern California (where I live now) is completely different. But God, I miss So. Cal beaches. :'( My mom's still down there though so we still get to visit.
