Juliani Cardenas,4- CA Amber Alert
#21
I think they briefly entertained the possibility that he'd gotten that far, but today's releases have them all but saying they don't expect a positive outcome here. There was a broken bouy that could only have been damaged by something very large and heavy...

so why no car yet?

I wonder why they are so sure all evidence leads to the canal? It can't be just the word of a witness who didn't come forward for days.

What really pisses me off is mom's first statements, she was SO SURE this guy wouldn't hurt her little boy. This guy, who had assaulted her, and had a history of violence!? Stupid, stupid woman. Her poor baby paid the price for her stupidity.

January 25, 2011

PATTERSON, Calif. -- Three vehicles were pulled Tuesday from the Delta-Mendota Canal near Patterson, but none of them are the car being sought in connection with the kidnapping of 4-year-old Juliani Cardenas.

Officials pulled a Honda car, a pickup truck and a motorcycle from the water. Officials have been seeking a silver 2003 Toyota Corolla in connection the case.

Police were also seen using sonar along the canal in an attempt to find any bodies that may be under water.

Patterson Irrigator.com:
It's back to the drawing board for investigators searching for 4-year-old Juliani Cardenas following a week-long search of the Delta-Mendota Canal.

A search team that includes police, sheriff's FBI and Department of Justice officials plans to meet Thursday to determine next steps after identifying 12 vehicles in the canal this past week, but none belonging to kidnapping suspect Jose Esteban Rodriguez.

"We have to determine if we're going (to the canal) again, when we're going out again and what kind of resources we're going to use," Deputy Raj Singh said Wednesday evening.

STANISLAUS COUNTY, CA - Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson said divers have found the car used in the kidnapping of 4-year-old Juliani Cardenas.

The Toyota Corolla was located Friday morning in a siphon pipe of the Delta-Mendota Canal where a witness reported seeing a Toyota Corolla drive into the water the day of the kidnapping.

"We, from the very beginning, have had faith and confidence in his reports," Christianson said of the witness.

The sheriff said a remote video camera was "clearly able to read the license plate" and confirmed the car belonged to kidnap suspect Jose Esteban Rodriguez.

The investigation has now become a recovery operation. "We're not in any rush. We will not risk anyone's life to get the car," Christianson said.

Earlier Friday, the San Luis & Delta-Mendota Water Authority turned off three of their five pumps, dropping the water level by 60 percent to help divers in their search.

poor woman. she just posted this on her facebook. i don't see how she will be able to be on TV tonight.

Juliani's family is not ready to talk to reporters. The boy's mother, Tabitha Cardenas, posted the following on her Facebook page upon learning the car had been located:

I found this out a lil bit ago and I just can't cry because I have no tears. Please don't judge me. I will be on Nancy Grace again tonight. If I don't cry please don't judge me. Keep looking for Jose and my son not the car....PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!

A little later, Cardenas posted: They have not found any bodies so until I find out otherwise so please keep your eyes out for Jose and juliani.

Christianson said they have never sent a diver into a siphon before. They will be very meticulous and methodical in the operation so as to not endanger the lives of their divers. Dive teams with both the Stanislaus and Merced County sheriff departments have been looking for the car.

this is gut-wrenching. the car will be pulled up in about 15 minutes, and the poor mother is on nancy grace live! she should not be there! i am afraid it's going to happen while she's watching. and she is still saying she thinks he got out of the car and is alive. she's sobbing and nearly hysterical on the program right now, it truly hurts to watch her pain and fear.

i'm stunned! Sheriff says no bodies in car!

"We believe there is still a possibility that Jose and Juliani are still in this canal and still downstream," Christianson said. "There's no evidence that this car went in the canal and Jose fled the scene."

He said Rodriguez "doesn't have the sophistication, the infrastructure, the financing to pull off this type of abduction."

windows were open, currents erratic and powerful, so they will dive again for bodies.

more torture for the mom.

this has been extremely dangerous dive for LE, into a siphon. same as cave diving, very difficult and can be deadly. great respects to police divers who have been risking their lives to find this child.

this is all i know:
Divers are now taking, they say, one last look at all three blocks of the siphon. If they don't find anything, says Sheriff's spokesman Royjindar Singh, they will end the underwater search.

a child's body has been found in canal. waiting for more details. :(

A San Luis & Delta-Mendota Water Authority worker spotted the body.
Workers pulled the body out of the water before Merced County sheriff's officials arrived.
A child's body was found in the Delta-Mendota Canal near Santa Nella today, the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department reported. The child's identity and sex were not immediately determined, but the Merced County Sheriff's office said the child's clothing matched those of Patterson boy kidnapped two weeks ago.

The body was found this morning about 30 miles downstream from where investigators believe 4-year-old Juliani Cardenas and abductor Jose Esteban Rodriguez entered the canal in the kidnapper's car Jan. 18.

Stanislaus County Sheriff's spokesman Royjindar Singh said there would be a news conference in Patterson between 11 a.m. and noon today.

Singh did not know who found the body, exactly when it was found or any other circumstances.

Detectives recovered the body at mid-morning, he said.

the mom on facebook this morning:

"I have the worst news in the world to tell you all...='( My son's body has been found in the canal no DNA has confirmed it but its his clothes and shoes have and it's a 4 year old boy. So I want everyone to pray that Jose's body is found so we can all know that he's burning in HELL and I don't have to worry about him taking my unborn baby girl....='("

She then followed up two minutes later:

"I'm not talking to the press or anyone else I just had to let you all know before the news does... I love you all very much and my son does too. He's my lil angel now and believe me I'm crying as I am writing this to you all......"

there will be a murder warrant out for the filthy pig until his worthless rotted body is dragged from the canal one day.

Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christensen said Tuesday that officials have confirmed the body is that of Juliani Cardenas.

I want to scream. I really do. This is so sad, and so pointless! Why hurt the kids!?

The news makes me sick today. Well, it does every day, but today especially.

And the Skelton boys' disappearance is now considered homicide investigation with dad as primary suspect. No shit....really?

*sigh* I need a drink

I had been hoping he had made it to Mexico with the little boy. It's HARD to think about someone killing a child...hard to think about people killing innocent people period but, animals & little ones really hurt my heart.

PATTERSON — The mother and grandmother of 4-year-old Juliani Cardenas were so overwhelmed with emotion they had to remain seated during a candlelight observance Tuesday night.

A few hundred people with somber faces gathered on the lawn in front of City Hall to offer their support to the Cardenas family.

From her seat, a tearful Amparo Cardenas thanked everyone who participated in the search for her grandson, whom she called "Julianito."

"He's looking at all of you from wherever he is," she said about her grandson. "I don't have the words, but you're all in my heart forever."

The boy's mother, Tabitha Cardenas, sat in a chair next to her mother but was too emotional to speak to the crowd of supporters.

Amparo Cardenas thanked law enforcement officials who worked around the clock trying to bring the boy home.

"They were always there, day and night," she said. "I want to thank all the divers, who were diving in that cold water looking for my grandson."

A man's body matching the description of the suspect in the kidnapping of a 4-year-old boy was found Saturday morning in a Central California canal.

An autopsy scheduled for Tuesday will reveal the final results, but Stanislaus County Sheriff's detectives said that a water district employee found a body floating in the Delta-Mendota Canal south of Patterson at 8:30 a.m.

The body is of an "adult Hispanic male who's physical and clothing description matches that of suspected kidnapper Jose Rodriguez," the statement said.

Rodriguez, 27, is suspected of kidnapping Juliani Cardenas out of his grandmother's arms in Patterson Jan. 18, and then driving into the Delta-Mendota Canal. Rodriguez used to date Juliani's mother.

Juliani's body was found in the same canal on Feb. 1, further downstream.
