MONEY!

I've never had an argument over finances, ever. I know it happens because I hear my friends mention it on occasion. Our money is separate & I have this theory, his money is our money & my money is my money.

I'm not much of a money person. Just as long as I have enough.

I resented the last a-hole for sucking up my money, though. We only had one joint account, but that was enough to do major damage. Keep your money separate. Good fences make good neighbors.

I would never even consider having a joint account, not because of him but because I would never want to have to answer to ANYONE on how I choose to spend my money, that's my business, no one else.

It doesn't work for everybody, but my husband and I combined our money in to a joint account when we got married. At the time, I was working and our incomes were pretty equal.

I had a TON of reservations when I stopped working to stay home with the kids. My dad was very controlling with money--my poor mom had to justify her fucking grocery bills. I would have gone back to work in a heartbeat if my husband had demonstrated any of that but I've got to say, he has his faults but that's not one of them. I spend what I spend and he pretty much never questions it. We talk about major purchases just because that's the right thing to do IMO but other than that, money doesn't come up.

On the other side, we have a little cabin in the mountains that we're currently tearing down and rebuilding. That's his dream (not mine), it's costing a ton of money but I support his dream (I just told him not to expect me and the kids to be up there every fucking weekend). He also helped his brother out (we bought a small city newspaper and let the brother run it)....totally lost that money. I could have said "I told you so" but I wouldn't do that either.

I still have one credit card from way back when in my own name anyway. My dad always said "maintain your own credit".

On the other side, we have a little cabin in the mountains that we're currently tearing down and rebuilding.

That's my idea of a good time. Seriously! :B

I love projects like that & look for reasons to begin one. I stroll through Lowes like some people stroll through a park. On occasion I've said, baby, I've had an idea & I swear I see the urge to flee cross over his face.

I like it too although I can't say I'm very good at it. I've made some bad remodel decisions in the past. We put in a jacuzzi tub in our master bathroom about 10 years ago but the problem was, it was a tub/shower combo. After 3 or 4 years of having to make a giant step in to the tub to take a shower, we ripped it all out and reverted it back to just a shower. I'm getting a little better but it doesn't come easily to me.

I'm getting ready to remodel our kitchen and I've already decided I'm going to hire a kitchen designer to lay it out for me. I don't want to fuck that one up, lol.

The problem with the cabin is it's about 3 1/2-4 hours away from our home. I'll have fun stocking it but it's about an hour away from anything resembling a Home Depot or Lowes and we don't have a good vehicle for hauling really big items--my SUV won't cut it. Anyway, I'll just be happy when the damn thing is done. It's on a historical site so just getting all the approvals took over a year. Hopefully, it will be done by mid to late summer this year!

4 hours is just far enough away for it to be a regular weekend trip. If it were any closer, you would have friends that would want to live in it, so it is juuuuust far enough away.

It's in a sleepy little place called Pinecrest, near Dodge Ridge ski resort, east of Sonora. There's very little there (lake, restaurant, outdoor amphitheatre and little sports shop). That's pretty much it. I get antsy up there after a few days--my husband could stay there for a month (easy).

It's great for kids though--we just have to get it built before they start finding it boring too.

My husband wants his ashes scattered there after death. "Till death do us part" might apply in our case.

We used to go to Bass Lake in the summer, but I don't ever remember going as far as Sonora on that side (been to Bridgeport about a hundred times). I lived in Fresno, God's Armpit, for about a year. That's how I know all the dirty words in Spanish.

I need to be home after about 5 days away. I kinda freak a little when I leave the country because you can't drive home from there. I feel like I'm going to forget something of importance if I'm gone too long. It's probably neurotic. I've been keeping vacations within driving distance. I have to go to Hawaii most of the summer. I might come home with bald spots.

I love Hawaii. We were visiting Maui during the airline bankruptcies a few years back. What was supposed to be a 14 day trip turned in to 17 days plus it cost us about $3,500 to get the 4 of us home. Good times.

Kauai kind of freaks me out--it's just a little too small. I felt like I was on a spec of dirt in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. I guess I kind of was. We watched that girl who lost her arm to a shark surf almost every day. I thought she was either ballsy or stupid.

Everything in Hawaii costs too much. Kailua looks pretty. We did an island hop to Honolulu for a few days. The traffic there was worse than in L.A. Kailua looks like the better place to be.

Mule Days--yee haw! My sister lives for the annual Mule Days festival. It must be something in the water. As soon as she moved there, she bought a pick-up truck, she started wearing a lot of leather and listening to country music and she has everyone call her "Trese" instead of Tricia.
