I read of this house many years back, but just came across it again. Seems Sarah Winchester (of the rifle Winchesters) was a very excentric woman, and on the advice of a spritualist, who promised eternal life, and freedom from harmful spirits...built this home..and kept right on building it. For, it seems, that as long as she kept building, she would be safe from the spirits. Well, she died anyway..but the story is interesting. This link goes directly to the page about Sarah, but if you have not visited the whole site, it is pretty cool.

It's a very cool place! Pretty creepy, too. Staircases that go nowhere, halls and rooms are like mazes...and always strange noises. I may have some pics around with some creepy shadows and such. It would take some time to find them...will try when I'm home later.

Ghost Adventures just covered this as well. It was on last weekend. My favorite part of the house is how there is a "drop door" straight in to the kitchen... oh and the stairs that lead to the ceiling!
