You'd be surprised how many would. This is a good time to start this too. Mid term elections are coming up. One of them will want to "look good".

It also depends on how much time and dedication you want to put into "your cause". You really have to be a pest on this stuff but trust me when I tell you this works.

If you have several people who you know will write to someone, make a general form letter, put yourself as the original author and send them out so others in different states can do the same.

I'll be happy to nag my congressman.
Especially now since the republican who had to retire was replaced by a democrat who, when I asked him for help with something this year, sent me out a packet of useless information and the list of things he willing to help with.

He's a real go to guy:
Info on the flag over the White House
Help arrange White House Tours
Passports and Visas
Immigration procedures
Student financial aid - and at least 20 other completely mundane topics any of which one can take upon themselves to accomplish easily.

see? a useless lazy shit replaced someone who went above and beyond to help his constituants.

My Rep is Tim Holden. I know this man personally and I assure you that all he'll do is nod when appropriate and act as if he is concerned. He'll then thank me for my input, shake my hand, offer me some useless crap and toss the conversation and print into the trash as soon as I clear the elevator.

As far as senators.....I have Casey and Specter. Need I say more?

Don't matter. You think of how many different ones you can send it to.
Then you put you cc'd to all on the bottom.
If you pass this around (like I said I'd be happy to start here) you add to the cc that this has gone out to me (i'll give you my name) in NJ and whomever else jumps on your bandwagon.

If they think someone else might get a good idea before them, they may want to jump on it instead.

regardless, what's the worst thing that can happen? Nothing. Things will stay as they are instead.

But if they think others are already involved, you never know.

I have Judd Gregg and I like the way he kept his principles when he did not like the way the census wasgoing too be run by the Liberals. The census is now a joke that will soon dictate where our tax dollars go. The minority will now wag the dog of the majority. ::dunno::..........Fuckers. But with letters and e-mails maybe some things in my State will not fall to the will of the minority. But with the Feds holding a gun to the head of the legislature by withholding funding they (the Feds)are becoming blackmailing criminals legally.
He ain't heavy, he's my brother.

My congressman is John Adler. Biggest poser there is IMO.

Maggot, you're right, letters are the way to start. Remind these pricks that they are not the only ones with a brain and that the people don't always sit back and take it up the ass. Many of these people have such huge egos they thing they're smarter than everyone else.

But Like I said, it all depends on how much energy you want to put into something. LKT you got 90% of what needs to be said already done in this thread, not much left to do but tweak it so it's not obscene.

It's competition time on the hill and timing is everything. Some of them are already rethinking things. Obama took a big hit today on his Guantanamo Bay closing. Congress voted NOT to fund it 906 - seems like people are looking for more substantial info and plans than just a pretty speach now.

Very well then.

I'll do a copy and paste to my word processor and edit it into a "respectable" document.

Give me a day or so (depending on my work schedule) and I'll get back with you. What the hell, it might at lest start a fight on Capitol Hill and that's not such a bad thing. Now is it?

I would have to say you're very very wrong. It doesn't take a car smaller than a Fiesta to achieve 35mph. My Chevy Cavalier got 32 on the highway. And it needed an O2 sensor replaced and some other minor things that affect fuel efficiency. When I first bought it I drive my sister from Traverse City, MI to someplace near Gary Curtis, IN (to her Baptists [read Cult] college [Hyles Anderson College]) and On that trip we got 37 mpg. It was about a month later that the O2 sensor went. So yeah. I do agree with your sentiment for the most part, but I suggest you check your sarcasm a little.

You'd have to put a fuckin' gun to my head to get me into one of those lil' cans that get 30 mpg.

It's not ENTIRELY sarcasm D. Yes I'm aware of many cars that get great mileage that aren't quite tin can clown car sized. I have a GEO Metro that although not very large can at least fit 4 adults and some cargo in the hatch. It gets 42 MPG.

The thing here is......with the electronics and massive amounts of required (mostly by CA type standards) anti pollution gear, to achieve the same MPG you in fact do need to make them smaller and lighter.

Explain why my 1983 Chevy full sized 4 wheel drive pickup with the V8 carbureted, non-catalytic converter engine gets 20 MPG around town and lighter, newer, more aerodynamic, V6, 2 wheel drive trucks get less @ 17 MPG.

Bear in mind here that I also have a heavy plow mount and light set welded to the frame and as such can't remove it for the summer. (A bit of extra weight there.)

The answer here is the electronics and anti pollution devices.

The vehicle that I drive almost exclusively gets only 8 mpg., there is no doubt in my mind that I'd rather pay to fill that bitch up rather than a few bucks to fill adeath trap up..And that's exactly howI see those small vehicles.

8 miles per gallon?!

You are single handedly doing more damage to the environment than a smoke factory.

What is it with you yanks driving fucking monster trucks around to geta newspaper from across the street? I once saw this myself at Daytona beach, a bloke on the other side of the road drove about half a mile down and came back up another half a mile to get a newspaper from a vending machine outside our hotel.

Me and my mates used to walk everywhere, we were the only people I saw for 2 weeks walking on the pavement, we used to pick up beer (which took about an hour to convince the cashier that yes our passports were real and that we were over 21) and an old guy would pack themand say "which car is yours?"we said "we just walked here dude", he looked at us like we were alien beings from a distant galaxy.

We also witnessed two black guys shooting at each other in the hotel parking lot one night, they weren't very good shots, how they missed each other at that range is a fucking miracle.

Oh I have no doubt its legal D, it just seems to be quite extreme, my dad recently bought a new car and it does 47 miles to the gallon, and the car itself is no little tin can either its an average sized saloon.

... Bad Opie. You called Duch, D, and now everyone is gonna get confused Smiley_emoticons_wink

@ LK, part of the problem is the extra shit our government makes us put on the car that restricts airflow and the like, but doesn't have any BENEFIT. That's why a european V8 can get as good, or better, mileage than U.S. V6s. Its disgusting.

Still, there are plenty of hybrid vehicles that get over 40mpg these days. And are full sized sedans. They're just gonna have to do that to more vehicles.

Awesome. I love being underrated and unappreciated. Mean I can surprise people. Besides, I'd rather that, than be an overrated hamster fucker like yourself.
