Are You Cheap, Merely Thrifty, or Lavishishly Irresponsible with Money?
#21
I coupon. I don't eat out if I don't have the money. If I do eat out, it is dollar menu food. I pay all my bills when they are due. If I do without any extras I do.

I have never been late on one single bill in almost 20 yrs. Not even a phone or power bill.

I have serious issues with a coworker that gets daily phones call from bill collectors, has rotted teeth although she has dental insurance, dodges her landlord every single month because her husband would rather eat out BIG (their take out order is more complicated than most mortgage papers) than pay a bill on time. But I ain't her mama.

That being said, I could likely buy anything I wanted at this minute. While it might seem big to most here, I just financed a $34K car over the phone.

I do okay. I pay my bills.

User, the cabin is probably a very good investment. And you and Mr. User can retire there. I'm sure you and the family will get a lot of enjoyment out of it. My IL's bought the "camp" on Lake George 40+ years ago. Everyone at the lake calls the house the camp even though it's a beautiful home. LOL My FIL has worked on it all these years and it's a beautiful house on the lake and everyone loves it there. A lot of great family memories were made there.

What kind of car did you get Tammy? I am picking up my new Accord on Saturday. I am conservative when it comes to buying a car. I didn't get an SUV because gas in NY is out of sight. Although an SUV would be nice in the winter. The Accord has all the options I want and gets good gas mileage and keeps it's value. This is my 4th Accord and they do pretty well in the snow too.

Mine's 14k gold plated. It's the one luxury I lavishly overspent on.

I have a very hard time spending money on myself. I prefer functionality in everything from clothing to furniture etc so I could give a shit about brand names unless the stuuf actually was a better product.

I guess I'm "merely thrifty". I don't buy much, though I was a bit more lavish when I had much more money. Not at all interested in name brands or trends. I do my own nails and most often my own hair. I don't buy clothes unless it's for a special event. If I start to gain or lose too much weight (happens, natural fluctuator), I address it before my clothes stop fitting.

For the house, I mostly buy second hand because I like to tweak things and experiment a little to make them my own without spending much. I drive a very banged up pick up truck which I keep running well because it's paid off and cars get hit all of the time trying to park here; I don't want to stress about my car when I'm visiting with clients or out with friends. Most of my discretionary income is dedicated to frequent short-distance travel.

I've had a lot of money, and I've also struggled - both within the last 10 years; the money didn't make me happier (but it sure as hell didn't hurt either).

I'd spend a lot more if it weren't for my wife keeping me in check (just being honest).

She always shops for bargains, but we don't have 'cheap' stuff.

Both of our cars are paid for, but they're not brand new.

We also love to travel, and quite frankly, her habits allow us to do that.

Don't spend what you don't have.

Live below your means and save for a rough patch.

Don't covet what you can't afford.

Go first class or don't go.

Me too. It's so beautiful up there. I love to sit on the deck and watch the boats go by in the late afternoon evening and enjoy the breeze. We always wave at the big boats as the go by. The kids have all done this since they were little. Smiley_emoticons_smile

It took me a couple of weeks to get the one I wanted. It is charcoal with black leather interior. I question the black leather every day when I get in the car after work Dramaqueen but the tan leather in my old car looked bad after a couple of dogshah

I have pics of the girls going parasailing down there when they were younger. We used to go for six flags and the water park, but now that Jay has the bestest water park in the world we go there instead.

Our family has great Lake George memories.

I spend all my money on my children. My oldest prefers hollister, american eagle, aberceombie and aeropostale. He wont ask for those things but I know he likes those. I would much rather my children have everything they need and want than myself. I lavish them, I'm cheap for myself.
Just shut up. Just shut the fuck up right now.

I think most all parents are like that...at least I sure am...I joke with my kids to make sure to get the mortician to give them our gold teeth before they fire us up since they've plucked us dry of everything else....(just joking for those of you who will post I'm an awful mother for saying that) I'm a great mom and some of my kids would agree ha ha
Spay and neuter your dogs and cats. Ban gas chambers in your local shelters. User made the call. User made a difference! Love3

Speaking of cars, I am currently driving a Dodge Charger. It's a rental while my car is at the shop. Neighbor backed into my car. Anyway, I bring it home last night and the boys went crazy over it! They both loved it and that is what Thing 1 wants when he gets a car. He always wanted a truck before. It is a cool car and I like it but not sure I would want to own one. It's bigger than I'm used to and I find it hard to see when backing up. Probably beacuse I'm short. It has that push button start which is kinda cool but I always think about LC when I get out and make sure I did indeed turn it off. LOL

I looked at one when I was looking at my avenger. I often say I should have bought the charger.

Rather cheap and practical with myself, but a bit on the lavish side when it comes to donating to things that pull on my heartstrings. The only way I would wear anything "designer", per se, is if it came as a great bargain. I am a heck of a bargain shopper.

Then again, I don't have an overabundance of money, and basically make enough to satisfy my needs and a few of my wants, but I'm very, very serene and peaceful; which can't be bought or sold. Real talk.
