University of Texas Austin campus evacuation

Austin campus evacuation due to bomb threat. My take is it's probably a hoax - that in a real bombing attempt, the perps wouldn't warn people.

...“At 8:35 a.m. the university received a call from a male with a Middle Eastern accent claiming to have placed bombs all over campus. He said he was with Al Qaeda and these bombs would go off in 90 minutes. President [William] Powers was notified and it was decided to evacuate all of the buildings out of an abundance of caution.”

A campus-wide email has just been sent to students, faculty and staff that all should take cover. Police are responding....

In other school news, Brownsburg (Indiana) school system website was hacked yesterday by someone in Iraq - bizarre.

http://www.indystar.com/article/20120914...-from-Iraq

...It caused the website to display a mostly black posterlike graphic that purported to vow allegiance to Allah, along with phrases written in script that appeared to be Arabic. There also were mentions of a film, possibly the amateur video featuring unflattering depictions of Islam and linked to protests at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo and elsewhere.

Brownsburg police said Thursday that the website was targeted because of its software, and not as a direct attack on the school....

Edited to add - I wondered why this school system in Indiana was targeted - FWIW, just read that the 2nd largest mosque in the US is in the same county.

Apparent hoax. Campus reopened.

Although while wearing my tinfoil hat, I'm wondering if it could be a dry run to see how campus security responds, or to see where the masses of students and faculty go to off campus.

LSU bomb threat and campus evacuated today. A bunch of copycat hoaxers - or is someone trying to get everyone used to bomb threats so they'll stop responding to them? I hadn't heard about the Hiram College one last week.

Bomb threats were also made last week at the University of Texas at Austin, North Dakota State University at Fargo, and Hiram College in Ohio.

...Classes at the school have been canceled, the Houston Chronicle reports....

Around 30,000 students and faculty attend LSU.

Traffic getting out of the campus is in a gridlock, as students are sitting in buses at a standstill, The Advocate reports....
