Getting With the Program
#1
I was fortunate to receive pretty positive results to a recent physical and although I contribute some of that to my parents, obviously a bit must be credited to working out.

What do you do for physical activity? Is it a hassle, but you do it anyway?

Are you so naturally fit you find you don't need to work out at all?

Running is good but wow, does it get boring. I know there is a runner's high that is achieved at a certain point, I have just never found myself getting to that point.

I honestly believe some occupations (should) require being physically fit, including the one I'm in.
It is unfortunate that more emphasis isn't placed on being fit, but sobeit.

Do you run? Lift weights? A combination of both?

PT in academy was pure torture!! as you know! ... i was in great condition and have fortunate genes. but i don't torture myself that way anymore. i live next to a beautiful lake and will use it for all-around good conditioning. in the wintertime i am too sedentary i'll admit. but this was my first REAL winter in 20 years, in florida i swam and dived year-round.

i may take up skiing again next season, but with a rebuilt knee i'm a little nervous about it.

Summers I swim. I've my own pool. I live by the beach so I swim there too an walk in the sand with the dogs.

I walk with the dogs around the neighborhood too.
I've a Bowflex and treadmill but don't use them as often as I should.

My workouts are more for physical therapy than the hard body fit I used to be in due to my accident and permanent damage it's done to me. Often a workout or stressful yard work will set me back to three pain filled days that don't allow a workout of any sort.

Swimming usually is my best option as it's stress free and all encompassing.

Before my divorce, daily riding of my horses and keeping them and me in top competition shape was all I needed to keep hard body fit.

But considering my injuries preventing me the workouts and activity level I used to enjoy, I'm only about 15 pounds heavier than I would like to be and I haven't had to buy any 'fat clothes' for the little bit I've gained. It's more like I've 'softened' than gained.

I work out at the gymwith weights 3-4 times a week for about an hour and jog on the treadmill 3-5 miles a few times a week. If it's not brutally hot out then I jog outside with the dogs.

Daily sit ups, push ups, curls/lifts with dumbbells ... and physical activities like play fighting and practicing sports with my kids. Throw in some construction/remodeling projects.

It helps me to have the right kind of music, I have a playlist that I only use when I run. I don't even listen to those songs any other time. I can go for 3 miles before I start to get bored and tired andI can go 5 miles on a good day. I could probally do more if I had not sucked down a pack of cigarettes a day for the past 15 years ::laugh::

for a while I was going to the gym 3-4 times a week, I haven't been in about a month; pregnancy is kicking my ass.

I have taken the physical agility test to become an officer here in MI a while ago, I did well, I like that sort of stuff. I admit I hate running though.

I haven't worked out since High School gym class in the 10th grade. (1981)

I thank my mother for good genes. I am still a size 3 after 2 babies. I am waiting for my over active metabolism to die on me and then I will probably gain 100 lbs, and die with a twinkie hanging out of my mouth.

haha, I do eat like crap and unless pregnant don't weigh more than 100lbs. I have 4 sisters all overweight, so I'm not sure how I ended up staying petite. I didn't get a gym membership until last year, when I told the trainer I wanted abs like Janet Jackson, he told me, 'you do know those are not real right?' I don't care I still want them!

I go to the gym 3-5 mornings a week at 6am
work out for approx 60-75 minutes doing cardio 20-30 minutes and the a body part and weights or selectorized machines for the rest of the time, followed by abs.

I managed/ran some of the largest fitness facilities in the country (Bally Total Fitness, World Gym, Gold Gym, Crunch) for almost 10 years in NYC and Wash DC and still stay pretty current on all of the newest training trends and practices through a variety of magazines and websites.

bottom line is not if you are 100 pounds or 300 pounds...if you die when you are 40 years old. Then you just look good..in a wood box dead.

working out should be for a combination of health (cardio fitness, strong heart, low pulse, blood pressure, etc), ego (looking good and in shape) and finally (and most importantly for many people) - SO YOU CAN EAT LIKE A NORMAL FUCKING HUMAN and not a starving mouse.

I don't go to the gym but, I do go to dance class & I have for most of my life, if there is music around me I am moving to the beat of it...I ride several times a week...I swim daily in warm weather months & when it's cold I walk the horse track...I'm pretty active in general, only 'cuz I have ants in my pants and find it difficult to sit still for any length of time...And I still don't eat what I want, food is my enemy, I'm still working on that.

Yep! That's me!! ::rollseyes::

I used to run. It was mostly because my ex (before last) was a runner and he was always getting me to go run with him. I didn't find it boring, as long as we stuck to the trails in parks and such, but I overpronate and it totally fucked my knees. I did run a 10k once though... I've never been so sick in my life as when I hit that finish line. I passed the table where you were supposed to pick up your 'number' and went straight to the restroom a few hundred yards away, where my body emptied itself of everything I had consumed the past couple of days, top and bottom. It was unpleasant.::bvomit::

These days, I'm probably more active than I have been in years. Aside from chasing after my 2yr old 24/7, I do the middle eastern dance class and work on that during the week as well, which is more of a workout than you might think, I have a membership at the YMCA, where I go to work out on the machines and swim a couple of times a week, and now that the weather is getting nice, I'll be taking my son for walks.

I'm not completely sedentary, but I could certainly stand to bump up my exercise.

You're pregnant? Congrats!
Yeah, hard to do much when you're growing another person. I worked all through my pregnancy, up till the day I went in (2 weeks overdue) to be induced... then I was back at work 3 days later when I got out of the hospital. I was pretty lucky in my pregnancy though, I had fewer physical problems than most women. It really only started to suck that last month...
