Nurse refuses to give CPR
#21
There's no indication that was the case though. The facility says it's always their policy to just wait for help.

I read that she didn't have a DNR order on file and even if she did I doubt the nurse searched the files before calling 911. It was an independent facility, not a nursing home or hospital where they hang it on your door. The nurse serves no purpose being there other than to encourage clients like Tiki said.

My guess is no resident in the facility even has a DNR or NOCODE on file. Because it's an independent living facility, they shouldn't even have those type of records on residents.

I think they make a corporate decision to not provide skilled care in the independent living facilities intentionally. It allows them to market directly to older people who can still live on their own, but keeps the facility away from oversight by health care agencies.

But extending some policy to not assisting independent residents who suffer life threatening emergencies - except to dial 9-1-1 - is immoral.

Imagine the scenario if a car jumped the curb, crashed through the front entrance of the facility, and injured three residents of the facility. According to their policy, the nurse would likely call 9-1-1, then render aid to the driver of the car since they were not a resident, leaving the three injured residents to wait for EMS.

Wow how many *I read* stories are there?

I read the family is okay with what happened. I also read that once you start CPR, you have to continue until you have an EMT, Paramedic or MD take over.

Also having a sickly Mother who weighs less than 90lbs, I am not sure I would trust anyone proforming CPR on her without either killing her or damaging her body to the worst extent.

On another note, who is in charge of releasing these 911 tapes?

This is what happens when you live in a sue-happy country.
Of the millions of sperm injected into your mother's pussy, you were the quickest?

You are no longer in the womb, friend. The competition is tougher out here.

While the facility didn't have a DNR order, the family believes she went the way she would have wanted.

Wow. A family that doesn't appear to be sue happy.

Still, the facility is now saying the nurse misinterpreted their policies.

I wonder how fast a settlement offer was made to the family?

Non-disclosure . . . of course.

Yeah, the facility is changing their story.

I blame the nurse and the facility but it's good that the family's at peace with the whole thing.

Yeah.

Just like Treyvon Martin's family publicly stating only wanting justice for their son.

And a several civil suits to make it happen.
