How many stop lights was there in the town you grew up in?

Would you let your dog sleep in bed with you?

RE: MORE NOSY QUESTIONS - MirahM - 05-29-2025

none
depends on situation and dog. It wouldn't be a nightly habit for me if I had a dog
cat yes

None.

And yes. Hell, I've let a friend's female dog lick my face, practically french kiss me.

We had like 3,000 people in the village of Hoosick Falls but it was so rural the cows mooed when my brother Jim played his saxophone.

lol, cute questions. No idea on stop lights.

I got my dog towards the end of the pandemic and there was a dog adoption craze going on at the time. I filled out a couple applications and some questions/answers I recall:

Are there areas in your house where you won’t allow the dog?

No.

Will your dog be mostly inside or outside?

Probably inside but definitely outside if/when it’s safe.

How much are you willing to spend annually on your dog?

$10,000?

Where will your dog sleep?

Err, wherever the dog wants?

Will the dog be allowed in your bed?

If the dog wants…

Our dog sleeps in our bed every night and it’s fine. Our last dog always slept under the bed which was fine too but I was stumped trying to answer the questions before I got to know the damn dog.

The price of good cat food is crazy. My cat's not doing very well so I get him the best I can find, which is Instinct for now. About $50 for 12 cans of the rabbit recipe! It smells like real food, tho. The food I used to get has gone to shit. It's sticky and smells bad. It was 95% turkey, now it doesn't specify how much. 3 or 4 different thickening agents and crap oil. I'd like to force feed it to the execs that run the private equity firms that are buying up everything.

RE: MORE NOSY QUESTIONS - BigMark - 05-30-2025

I put that shit on crackers.

I'm so sorry to read that. I don't think our pets live long enough. I always feel someone's pain when they lose their beloved pets.

Believing in reincarnation gives you a very different perspective on death. It's an interlude, not a final curtain. Still hard to say goodbye, tho.

I've actually given reincarnation some thought and I decided it wasn't for me. As far as I can tell, I don't get to make the choice, as wonderful as coming back as a beloved pet would be, it would be just as awful to come back in the black hole of Calcutta. *worried look*

My understanding is you do get a choice via the life path you choose. It isn't random.

Well that disproves reincarnation for me. Why the fuck would I choose my current life?

Yeah! My dog was getting a little reflux or something so the vet recommended a more raw food than I was getting her (all meat, very few if any veggies, no grains). I picked up a bag the other day and for the first time really heard the dollar amount ($44.00). Then I did the calculations and realized that stupid bag probably only lasts her about 8 days or so. K-nuts!

But the “annual cost” thing stumped me. Is it a good year or not? Any emergency vet appointments in there? I just threw a number in there.

Sarcastic
True. Not totally unhappy with my life. Just figured I'd have a better/easier life. Shouldn't complain. If not for my brother Ed inviting me to hang out with his college friend years and years ago, I'd be a lonely  reclusive introverted homebody and an even fatter fuck. It's nice to have real life friends(and online friends) to hang out with, smoke cigars, watch wrestling, and go on the occasional road trip.

RE: MORE NOSY QUESTIONS - sally - 05-30-2025

I found a book at an old book store 30 years ago that was written by a monk that raised German Shepherds. He said that they feed inexpensive dry food and daily dog safe human food as treats which aids in digestion, even occasional junk food is ok because life is short and they like pizza too. Well I took his advice and all of my dogs have been healthy and lived past life expectancy. I even give my cats the cheap dried shit with some chicken and tuna fish as treats and they’re healthy as little horses.

I wouldn’t go with a grain free or raw diet either, my breeder said don’t do it no matter what they tell you. Her dogs eat the same as mine and she’s been breeding them for 40 years.

Hmmm, well I mix the raw stuff with a little Honest Kitchen dry kibble so she’s getting some grains and extras from that. And occasionally I give her some canned Wellness food that she goes crazy for. That’s like McDonald’s or something to her. I prefer offering some variety because I think it’s probably better (and I think people get a little too freaky about changing up foods) but she puked one too many times over a 2-3 month period and her vet said she had some elevated enzymes somewhere and more bland but protein rich food would benefit her. She hasn’t puked in a long time so maybe there was a there there.
