It’s acquired. Babies aren’t born thinking about anything other than their own needs (food, comfort etc). Nor should they be. The question isn’t whether or not it’s nature vs. nurture (to me). I think we’d all be wildebeests if we were raised in the wild.
I get (but don’t get) how someone can have a conscience and abandon it.
It goes back to domesticated animals.
