i read a comment today from a herpetologist, who said the snake that killed the child should have weighed 50 to 60 pounds...but it only weighed 15 pounds. it was emaciated and starving. so that owner is directly responsible for the death! i am waiting to see if he is prosecuted either civilly or criminally.

OXFORD -- The 32-year-old man, whose Burmese python accidentally strangled Shaiunna Hare, 2, has been arrested.

However, the arrest is not related to the python strangulation.

Sumter County Sheriff's deputies said Charles Darnell, 32, was arrested on narcotics charges.

Deputies said Darnell allegedly sold powdered cocaine to undercover agents in two separate incidences at his home.

Darnell was arrested during a traffic stop at Bob Jiffy's Mart on Highway 44 in Orange Homes.

He is facing multiple drug charges.
