The Asiana Airlines plane crash was caused by a "pilot in training"! WTF? Over 300 people's lives were in the hands of a pilot with only "43 hours" experience flying a 777 aircraft! WTF, where was the real pilot?
Remind me not to fly Asiana Air!!

RE: The 2013 Trivial, Boring Drivel Thread.... - Carsman - 07-08-2013

Can't sleep, keep tossing & turning, keep thinking of my best bud, & all the fun we used to have that won't ever happen again. Signs_173

Whoa...I hadn't heard that bit of news yet. Geez.

It's not determined that there was any pilot error yet. Authorities are already pulling data from the black box.

Terrible that 2 Chinese teens were killed, but pretty amazing that was the extent of fatalities (so far). The emergency workers at the scene were incredible. According to the local news, a couple of passengers were thrown into the water and were rescued without serious injury. It's not clear if the pilots are in the hospital or not, but will be interesting to hear their statements and accounts when they're made public.

SF General was crazy busy this weekend - they really had their hands full. Saw a report this morning that a couple of the passengers are in critical condition there, but most have been downgraded from critical or released. Good news.

You should post the video from CNN that shows the actual crash landing. The plane came this close to flipping over and if that had been the case, we'd be talking about hundreds of fatalities.

Amazing stroke of good fortune.

Bystander video of the plane crash on Saturday.

Somebody onboard had a fortune cookie that read:-

“You will survive the piloting skills of a rank amateur”.

I'm not sure why, if they have auto landing, it wouldn't be standard procedure to use that even in good conditions. Granted, I know nothing about flying a plane but I've heard they had that feature turned off. Assuming it's safer and reduces the risk of human error...why?

Never mind my post above. There are opposite complaints that relying too heavily on automation may be causing problems.

I just texted my son "what's on tap for tonight"?

He wrote back "what does that mean, sorry".

I responded "it means what are you doing tonight in old folk's language".

Jesus.

You must be really old because I've never heard that either. I would think that maybe you were asking me out for a beer.

RE: The 2013 Trivial, Boring Drivel Thread.... - crash - 07-10-2013

Yep. Me too. Or some pussy. Pussy and beer are the only references I've heard of as 'on tap'.

I can imagine all your sons friends that already want to hump you when he says to them "What's on tap tonight?"

"You're mom!"
