DOUBLE STANDARD - Duchess - 11-10-2013
The couple in this photograph are engaged to be married, they also coach at the same school. This photo was snapped while on a family vacation with their kids & parents and it was posted on FB. She got fired, he didn't. WTF.

She posted the photo to FB, which is probably easily accessed by school administrators and students. The school likely has a policy about social media postings.
If he'd posted it, I think he'd have been fired and she'd have been reprimanded.
Still kind of stupid that she's lost her job and the team lost their coach over it - I personally don't think there's anything offensive or wrong with the photo (except for that weird looking head between the couple).

The bottom half of the photo has been removed and if we could see that- such as what was posted on Facebook, we'd see her giving him a hand job?
That's got to be the only explanation plausible 'cause otherwise that really is messed up.

It's kind of inappropriate in that he has his hand in her boob. I don't think she should be fired for it though. What she does on her own time is her own business though.

There's nothing wrong with that photo & the student's parents didn't think there was either. I don't give a rip who posted it, either nail both of them for their loose morals or STFU about it.
In general I really can't stand society anymore & I look forward to the day that the only interaction I have with people are those I choose to be with. As it stands now I can't even stand to be around most people, especially those who are self righteous and full of shit. It's all I can do to keep my mouth shut in their presence.

A small distinction, to be sure- but one that is important on classifying this has anything other than good clean fun.

I really do feel like this is a double standard & I don't understand why who posted it even played a role in who got fired & who didn't.

That weird head could just be their jealous Principle!
And no she should not have been fired!
He was just as guilty if so offensive, he should have gotten the boot as well! Yes double standard, she should pursue it in front of an arbitrary board.

Maybe I misunderstood the story when I read it earlier.
The female coach said that the reason for her termination (and not her fiancees) was specifically because she posted it, now she knows better and will be more cautious, but she doesn't think the photo included immoral content. I know a few teachers and a cop who are subject to morals clauses with specific stipulations regarding social media postings in their employment contracts/policies.
Anyway, "immoral" is highly subjective; I didn't see anything immoral about it either. She has a decent chance of winning her job back, IMO.
Meh, I think the whole thing was blown out of proportion by the school administrators and whatever busybody complained about the posting in the first place, whether there's a double standard involved or just an overly conservative interpretation and strict enforcement of employment policy.
Were I the principal or HR person, I'd have warned 'em both to be careful about public postings and moved on.

Tis her business! Now I could see them saying coaches cannot allow students on their FB page. That would solve all of this.
There are so many bigger things to worry about. I cannot even imagine the act of posting it would cause her to lose her job and not him. Was it on his page, too? Was he tagged? Did he not delete it? WTF.
I'm with you, Duchess, people/society suck as a whole. I want a little cave and some water (food and wine good too) everybody just leave me alone.

It would be impossible to block every single student. But she should never friend any either. I've read about too many teachers being fired over things on their FB. I think it's a gross invasion of their privacy. I'm sure there were teachers engaging in all sorts of nonsense when I was in school. We didn't have social media so their private lives stayed private. Technology should not be used to snoop on employees or discipline them for their private life. Unless they have kiddie porn on their page or blatant drug use. Like pics of them snorting a few lines.

The issue is not invasion of privacy, IMO. It's not an invasion of privacy to react/respond (negatively or positively; rightly or wrongly) to something that's posted publicly on Facebook or other social media.
You want elements of your personal life kept private - then don't put them in the public domain - whether you're a teacher, police officer, housewife, butcher, baker, candlestick maker... Always been that way; even before Facebook and even before Mrs. Johnson socked it to the Harper Valley PTA.
I don't agree with the school's alleged interpretation of the photo as "immoral" and the firing of the coach in this case. But, the school didn't invade her privacy; she waived her privacy when she posted the pic for others to view.
