SCHOOL POLICY - Duchess - 03-26-2014

I understand that schools need policies in place to keep order but sometimes I think those that enforce the policies have shit for brains.

A little girl going through cancer treatments lost all her hair. Her friend didn't want her to feel alone & different so she got permission from her Mom to have her head shaved. The school suspended her because they have a policy of no shaved heads. This is elementary school. They have since reversed their decision.

Do school policies need to be so rigid? Wouldn't it be better to determine these things on an individual basis?

I think that's a no brainier. Unfortunately most institutions are so hell bent on not offending anyone these days, they end up pissing the majority of people off anyway.

I think that the child demonstrated bravery and the school lack of insight and intelligence in this one. I would threaten before they suspended to get legal with them,as well as going to the media. Don't push me.

Schools do stupid shit like that all the time.
Last week some kid in a school with a EMT class had a small pocket knife in his EMT vest locked in his car and they had him arrested
Now he is charged with a felony, if convicted he can't be a cop, firefighter, paramedic or a soldier or a teacher.....

Brilliant

She is a brave little girl. Schools are out of control. When I was a kid we did what we wanted within reason. These days a kid gets in trouble for breathing wrong. They need to find a happy medium.

Just gotta say, here in Oz we have a fundraiser for cancer awareness called 'The Worlds Greatest Shave' where people raise money for cancer research. They shave their hair and raise money through sponsorship. At the school, there was one student who participated in it, she was even mentioned in the school newsletter to encourage others to sponsor her.

It's a wonderful thing when people choose this way to give and it deserves to be supported.

The principals have become the biggest bully in the playground. They have zero-tolerance policies because they can't think or apply common sense.

One of the men who voted against letting her return to school said that America has lost her decision making skills, decisions were being made based on emotions.
