I'm not angry but I am disgusted. Whoever gave that to those kids has no business being in the field of education. None.

Even I am completely shocked by it.

Honestly, somebody should be fired for that.

I looked up the standards for that grade and slavery is included in Social Studies, but it is wrong to have all the kids figure out how much they would save by having slave labor today. Especially since we just pay people to sit at home, not pick crops.

I want to see the question that ends "How much more did she need to pay the fine?" Because nobody bitched about that. Because kids in that county will need pay fines someday. I bet there is a bail question on there, too.

or

using the DOC formula

how much credit do you get on your prison sentence for "good time"?

That shit is funny in Mock but not in third grade.

My kid brings home worksheets with puppies and kittens on them. I'm going to ask about the slavery thing later.

RE: Slice of Life in the ATL by Cracker - Cracker - 01-08-2012

No math worksheets about slavery. Here is the gist of what mine got out of it: The slaves were mostly black people. There were famous slaves like Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony (haha, had to correct that one). And that was about it.

There were 4 teachers involved in the math homework scandal. One resigned the other day. The NAACP says they should all be fired. The other 3 are under investigation.

I know a 14 year old who got a tattoo gun for Christmas from his mom (he lives down the street). He gave himself a tattoo of brass knuckles on his right breast area and another one on his leg (don't remember what it was, something dumb). I told him he is a dumbass. I was thinking about dropping a dime on his mom, but he broke his collar bone last week and I know a doctor had to see the tats. If the doctor doesn't report it, I'm not going to. He will regret that shit someday.

Slave game alleged at Gwinnett elementary

Some children at a Gwinnett elementary school played a tag-like game as slaves and slave catchers at recess, and a teacher allegedly participated.

The incident happened at Camp Creek Elementary School in Lilburn last week, the report said.

Three children and their parents said that a teacher organized and participated in the game.

The schools spokesperson said that there was a game, but the teacher did not participate.

The school district released a statement saying, "The school district looked into concerns regarding four students who participated in a playground activity. The district determined that the activity was student initiated and that allegations regarding the teacher's involvement were unfounded."

Ericka Lasley said that her 8-year-old daughter said she was a slave and other students were slave catchers during a game similar to tag. The third-grade student said the teacher proposed the game based on what the class is learning.

"She would sit on the bench and the slave catchers would come up to the door and ask did she have any slaves," the girl said.

Charvia Rivers said her children told similar versions of what happened.

The parents said that the game is inappropriate and insensitive.

A district spokesman said diversity training is planned for all staff members.

Earlier this month, a teacher at Beaver Ridge Elementary School resigned and apologized after writing slavery-themed math questions for a third-grade homework assignment.

Hahahahahahahahaha! Maybe just read the chapter. I know teachers are supposed to think of new and exciting ways to teach, but it just isn't worth it.

I would have lined the kids up and played slave dodge ball. Black people aren't offended when a ball is involved.
