 Happy Easter!

I'm just seeing this NightOwl. I didn't have one this year but I have in the past. I have one that a girlfriend would threaten to rip off my head & throw it in the dryer. I'll see if I can find it & I'll post it in Members Only.

Soldiers have been carrying out gun salutes across the UK to mark the Queen's 86th birthday.
Dozens of cannons fired into the air at the Tower of London, Hyde Park, York's Museum Gardens, Portsmouth Harbour, Edinburgh Castle and Stirling Castle.

The Queen spent the day celebrating privately at Windsor Castle, where she often spends weekends.

The ceremonies come in the year of June's Diamond Jubilee, which will mark the monarch's 60 years on the throne.

Her official birthday is celebrated in that month.

Hey my cousin in UK met the Queen yesterday. I mean they didn't have tea, but he is part of the guard that she inspected. It was a big family event.
Do I still have to upload via somewhere else?

Here's a pic my other cousin took yesterday whilst they were at the event.

And here is my cousin (my grandmother would have been so so proud), his mother is in the red jacket, my aunt. And the other lady is also my aunt by marriage, her husband passed away. A few of the cousins were there. Looks like they had a great day. I had other pics of them with the hat on, but I left them out. Hope you like them.

Some had to be smuggled past a revolutionary mob. Some had to be prised from the grasp of a royal mistress. The majority were presented as tokens of esteem, reverence and — for the most part — love.

Together, they comprise surely the finest collection of diamonds in the world. And now, in honour of her Diamond Jubilee, the Queen has authorised the first public study and display of these dazzling symbols of majesty.

These are the ‘other Crown Jewels’, the ones which do not reside in the Tower of London. They live at Buckingham Palace, or wherever the Queen happens to need them. These diamonds are not set in ceremonial regalia like orbs or sceptres, restricted to royal rituals.

They are ‘heirlooms of the Crown’, the Monarch’s personal jewels – handed down from Queen to Queen — and worn for everything from a royal awayday to a family wedding or a state banquet.

I'd like the tiara with the dangling pearls, please. I'll wear it when I'm posting in Mock.

The Cullinan Diamond, weighing 3,106 carats in its rough state, was first discovered in 1905 at a mine near Pretoria in South AfricaIt was originally thrown away as it was thought it to be too large to be a diamond
Once recovered, it was presented to King Edward VII as a gift and cuts were used in the Crown Jewels
Other cuts were used to make brooches, necklaces and earrings worn by royalty including Queen Elizabeth II throughout her 60-year reign
Seven of the nine cuts of the gem are to go on public display at Buckingham Palace this summer to celebrate Queen's Diamond Jubilee
