I grew up 2 locks from the train tracks so if could be done around a train we probably did it. Coins on the tracks are hard to find after a train's wheels run them over. If you can find them afterwards, they were pretty cool.
Trains were our transportation from one side of our town to the other. Most memorable times was hopping a ride from our area [the flats] to the fancy side of town where there was a swimming pool and a dairy queen next to it. Problem was that was the point the train started building speed and if you didn't bail soon enough you were in for either a hard landing or long ride to the next town, about 40 miles. Another ride was in 1975 when I went to the Sha na na & Dr Hook concert. At least that was downtown, and the train never picked up speed.
Train derailments were a common place thing and would disrupt traffic for hours if not days.
So yes dodging or driving through [those old arms sure did dent up a pickup] the arms was pretty lame compared to the stuff we did.

I used to have a coin flattened by a train. I say used to because I don't know where it is, but it's not something I would have thrown away.
I know someone here who used to hop the trains to the next town with his buddies. Crazy kid stuff.
Did your mom ever find out you used to hop the trains as a young person?

While we never discussed it, and by discussed, I mean I never got my ass beat, I am sure she found out. After all it's probably nothing her generation didn't do. I grew up 1 block from where she did. We grew up on the fun side of town. Oops, kinda got sidetracked there, sorry.

Nope. I’ve been to quite a few places here, but there are still many that I haven’t visited. Even in Florida there are places I haven’t seen yet.

User, do you experience Fall where you are? By that, I mean do you see the gorgeous Fall colors of the trees. I know it gets chilly at times, I was so surprised when HotD told me that. I always thought CA was too warm for socks.

Florida is actually pretty nice in early Spring, I’d say that’s my favorite time of year here.

Why thank u for asking. Yes, we get a nice Fall. Leaves change (or fall, lol) and it’s pretty stunning. I think Spring and Fall are probably the times when this area is at its most lovely. Summer tends to be brown and dry and winter is either cold and dry or rainy. HotD lives/lived (what happened to her anyway?) closer to the bay/ocean so it’s almost always 10-20 degrees cooler there.
But yeah. I wear thermal underwear and warm socks and stuff in the winter here. To me…50 degrees is fucking freezing. We actually get freezing temps probably 3-4 weeks in any given winter though.
I have the same question for Sally. I can’t imagine Florida ever being “cold”. I’m sure it doesn’t get as brown/dry as here though either (given the humidity/rainfall) there.

HotD sold her home and business and moved to Arizona. The last time I talked to her she said her mom had died. HotD had her mom with her in Arizona. She is very close to her family and I think she told us that one of her sisters lives in AZ as well.

Last year we had a cold snap that dipped down in the 20s for three days. I very rarely use the heater so of course it broke the day I did want to actually use it. We were freezing our asses off in there. You know what a pain in the ass it is to get a winter coat out of the attic and wash the dishes with the musty smelling thing on?
