PHOENIX - Police arrested a 31-year-old man found naked in the bathroom of a dollar store following a 4-day meth and heroin binge.
Female employees at the Dollar Tree near 40th Street and Thomas knocked on the bathroom door when they saw water coming out from underneath it.
The employees told police said Shane Chavis answered the door completely naked and exposed himself.
The women also found a hypodermic needle and leftover food from the store which he had eaten. Blood was seen in the bathroom's sink.
Prior to officers arriving at the scene, Chavis put his clothes on and walked around the store playing with the Easter decorations. He allegedly sprayed 10 cans of silly string all over the store and threw several items on the ground.
When police officers arrived at the store, Chavis was arrested.
Police say Chavis was in possession of a backpack that had black tar heroin in it. Chavis said he'd recently been awake for the past four days using crystal meth.
We sat down with Chavis in the jailhouse Friday and he's telling his side of the story.
He says he lost it that day. He'd been fired, he was homeless, and was under a lot of stress.
"I had a mental breakdown, time stopped," Chavis told us.
"The things that I did I would never do in a normal sober environment… I'm embarrassed the things they say that I did, I don't remember I have little flashbacks."
Chavis admitted he's addicted to heroin. He'd been living on the streets for four days, on a meth binge when he stumbled into the dollar store. He grabbed food from the store and went into the bathroom.
"Indecent exposure -- I don't do that. I was just trying to clean myself, she just opened the door and saw me."
"I thought I was dreaming, I really did, and I found a case of silly string and I was having a silly string... come on guys let's play."
Chavis says except for a DUI, he's never been in trouble before. He hopes to get help for his addiction.
Police say Chavis' behavior was very irrational and scared several Dollar Tree employees along with customers.
"I'm sorry I apologize to people in the store if I could do it all over again I would never do that."
