A Stagg High School student was charged this morning with killing his parents in their Palos Park area home.
John Granat, 17, is to appear in bond court this morning in the Bridgeview courthouse, charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
Sheriff's police said it was the young Granat who made the 911 call at 7:12 a.m. Sunday that brought police to the family home in the 12700 block of 81st Court near Palos Park.
John Granat, 44, and his wife, Maria, were found dead in their bedroom. An autopsy by the Cook County medical examiner's office determined that John Granat suffered blunt force trauma to his head. His wife suffered the same and also was stabbed repeatedly.
Authorities did not reveal a motive for the slayings.
Neighbors said John Granat was a local contractor and their son attends Stagg High School in Palos Hills.
Linda Falkenburg and her family have lived in the house behind the Granats' for nearly 10 years and said she was stunned when she found detectives in her backyard Sunday. Falkenburg described the Granats as "the sweetest, most perfect family."
"I feel like I just lost a family member," she said. "I can't imagine why anyone would do something like this."
The Granats' home, trimmed with manicured hedges and topiary bushes, is a pastel-hued duplicate of the red brick house next door. A large pond separates the yard from their neighbor on the opposite side.
