It's been a painful journey for those who have been trying to get little Jhessye Shockley home.
Reverend Oscar Tillman with the NAACP has been holding on to hope. He had given Shockley's mother, Jerice Hunter, the benefit of the doubt all allong, but had a change of heart Saturday, the last time he spoke with her.
"She hadn't mentioned Jhessey at all," Tillman said. "So I said, 'Why are you asking me to help you get lawyers and things when you have not mentioned Jhessey's name.'"
When asked if he believed Hunter killed Shockley, Tillman refused to answer.
Josie Harrington, who works in the neighborhood where Shockley lives, helped in the search for the child and her anger lies with Hunter.
"If it was my child, I would have been out there the same day, ripping through people's houses, going crazy," Harrington said. "I didn't see the woman for four day."
Tillman said family members told him it was not unusual to see burn marks, bruising or missing teeth on the little girl.
