A last minute u-turn by the U.S. Congress has saved the traditional light bulb from being rendered obsolete in the new year.
From January 1, the government had planned to ban the cheap, old incandescent bulbs in favour of more energy efficient lighting.
'The American people want less government intrusion into their lives, not more, and that includes staying out of their personal light bulb choices,'
GOP presidential candidate Michele Bachmann told ABC News.
