misdemeanors usually OK to apply to Academy. nothing involving moral turpitude.
that uniform is not what i was accustomed to, maybe it's a class A winter uniform. normally i would think it would have duty belt.
and once you are wearing that uniform, you better be armed, people out there want to kill your ass.
but...and i don't know about NY, you have not yet been state-certified at Academy graduation (there is a state exam), which is required to carry.
i was required to be armed even if i had only my Dept. baseball cap on. anything that indicates you're a cop makes you a target.
hard for me to tell ratio black to white officers there. i was looking for women officers in that crowd.
my graduation was at Christmastime, and i wore Christmas socks with reindeers i thought nobody could see (until i walked up on stage). well my ass got cheerfully chewed.
