DRESDEN, Maine — Searchers Thursday morning followed footprints in the snow believed to have been left by a missing 12-year-old boy.
The prints were the right size and from the right make of boot to have been made by Micah Thomas, said Maine Warden Service Lt. Kevin Adam.
Michah was wearing L.L. Bean boots, blue jeans and a blue Aeropostale hooded sweatshirt when he disappeared Wednesday, Adam said. He was also carrying a gray and red backpack.
“I’ve seen nothing so far to indicate foul play,” Adam said Thursday morning.
Searchers are focusing on an area around the East Pittston Road in Dresden. There was a report that Micah was sighted in the area around 4 p.m. Wednesday. This is where the footprints were found.
A search dog attempting to follow the tracks caught a human scent but later lost it, Adam said.
Thomas, who is 5’3” and weighs about 90 pounds, was reported missing from Dresden Wednesday afternoon. The middle school student was last seen when dropped off by school bus at 3 p.m. at the intersection of 52 Eagle Lodge Lane and Route 127 in Dresden.
His stepfather, Peter Thomas, reported Micah missing to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s office at approximately 3:40 p.m. when Micah did not arrive home and could not be located. The Maine Warden Service was then called at approximately 5:50 p.m. and deployed ground searchers and K9 teams.
On Thursday morning, about 50 people — using dogs, boats and planes — continued the search for Micah. In addition to the Warden Service, personnel from the Maine Marine Patrol, Maine Forest Service, Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, Dresden Fire Department and the private Maine Search and Rescue are participating in the search.
If anyone has information that might assist police in finding Micah, please call Lincoln County dispatch at 207-882-7332.
