I think we're on the same page with the confrontation part... and I see your point about Zimmerman staying in the car.
I still get hung up on the point that regardless of confrontation, Zimmerman ended up in a position where he had to defend himself. That's where it is going to get real sticky... because regardless of Zimmerman's actions up to that point, did he end up in a fight for his life?
That jury is fucked trying to sort it out.
