We got into WW2 because we had to at that point. If England fell and the rest of Europe we would have easily become a second tier power. Hitler's biggest mistake was being so arrogant and splitting his troops and fighting both East and West. If he would have kept his troops together he may have ruled all of Europe and beyond.

Actually, Hitler only attacked Russia in order to finish off England. England was almost to the point of surrender, but Hitler felt that she would never surrender as long as she had the hope of Russia coming to her aid. Hitler believed if he could take that last hope away from England,Churchill would finally throw in the white towel. He never truly wanted Russia. For all he cared, Japan or Chinacould have all of Asia.I suspect his mistake might have been in the treaty he had with Stalin. If that treaty guaranteed that Stalin would never come to the aid of Churchill, England would probably have rolled over by the time Hitler made a move to crush the Western front of Russia.
