(Cadiz, Ky.) -- A Trigg County man wanted for murder has turned himself in to the Kentucky State Police. At 8:30 AM on July 18th, Claude Russell came to the Trigg County Courthouse where he turned himself in to Kentucky State Police detectives. The arrest is the result of an investigation into a cold-case murder which occurred over nine years ago in Trigg County. On June 24th, 2002, 33-year-old Chantell Humphries was found shot to death in a field near Wallonia Road in rural Trigg County. The investigation into the murder began immediately and continued for nearly a decade.

On July 12th, 2011, Kentucky State Police Detective, Steve Silfies, presented the case to a Trigg County grand jury who returned an indictment for murder on 34-year-old Claude Russell of Cadiz. On Monday, Russell was arrested and charged with Capital Murder. Claude Russell was lodged in the Christian County Jail on a $500,000 cash bond.
"The murder of Chantell Humphries is a prime example of the Kentucky State Police never losing faith on a case; even one that has gone unsolved for almost a decade. A case is labeled cold only because of its shelf-life," states Trooper Dean Patterson, Post 1 spokesman. "These cases are never cold to the personnel investigating them. We owe it to the victim, their family, and friends to bring the responsible party to justice."
